    Abstract: Computer equipment having a prompt access function that can be operated prior to booting an operating system. The computer equipment comprises a processing system and a displaying system. The processing system has hardware resources with a backup/recovery module. The backup/recovery module establishes at least one recovery unit to hold backup data. The displaying system is used for displaying data contained in the processing system, corresponding to the recovery unit. The displaying system has a selecting means for selecting a status corresponding to the processing system. Thereafter, the displaying system displays the selected status. In the computer equipment of the invention, there is no limit on the amount of the recovery units which can be accessed simultaneously. The recovery unit is only loaded when it is required. Consequently, system resources can be saved, and mis-operation can be prevented.

    Abstract: A backup/recovery system and methodology that securely backs up and reliably retrieves data in a computer system. According to the invention, the backup/recovery system is utilized for protecting the computer system, having a data storage device, such as a hard disk, with data stored thereon, on which real-time data backup protection is required, in order to receive data from LAN/WAN afterwards without risk. In one embodiment of the invention, the backup/recovery system is installed in the computer system. The computer system includes an application layer coupled to an interface and operated predetermined application programs. A detecting module is located within the computer system for monitoring a predetermined data to be downloaded to the computer system. When the predetermined data is arrived to the computer system, the detecting module determines whether there is a predetermined harmful data contained in the predetermined data.

The backup/recovery system includes at least a selecting module and a processing module. A selecting module is used for selecting a first predetermined mode in accordance with the first type data and selecting a second predetermined mode in accordance with the second type data. A processing module is coupled to the selecting module, for processing the first type data and the second type data. The processing module backs up valid data being changed within the first type data while the first predetermined mode is selected by the selecting module.

According to the invention, the data protection system comprises a read only storage device and an operating system. The read only storage device is used for storing data needed by the computer system over a long period of time. In one embodiment of the invention, the read only storage device has a backup/recovery means and a driver. The backup/recovery means can back up the data in the computer system and restore the computer system to a previous state.
