The present invention provides a method of ensuring the acceptance of a foodstuff to a cat, the method comprising feeding to said cat, a foodstuff having a protein:energy ratio of from 40 to 60%, a carbohydrate:energy ratio of 25% or less and a fat:energy ratio of from 15 to 60%, wherein the energy ratios are based on the total energy content of the foodstuff.

A first vessel holds a first pet food product and a second vessel holds a second pet food product. The composition of the food products in the two vessels are different. A third vessel holding a third pet food product may also be present. In a particular embodiment, the composition of the food products in two vessels differ in fat energy content by at least 5% of the total calorific value of each product.

Abstract: Textured animal protein can be prepared by forming a heated pressurized wet mass of animal meal and extruding the mass or otherwise reducing the pressure and temperature surrounding the mass. The ingredients for the animal meal are chosen so that the measurable gelatin content of the extruded product is less than 10% of the dry solids of the product. As gelatin is a hydrolysis product of collagen, this means that the animal meal should be prepared from material which is intrinsically low in hydrolysable collagen, or the hydrolysable collagen content should be reduced either by cross-linking (for example with propylene glycol alginate) or by hydrolysis and washing away the gelatin.
