Patent number: 10182337Abstract: This disclosure relates to out of service recovery techniques for an accessory device. According to some embodiments, the accessory device may receive cellular communication system selection information from a paired device. The accessory device may store the communication system selection information. At some point, it may be determined that the accessory device has lost cellular communication service. The accessory device may perform a cellular communication service scan utilizing the system selection information received from the paired device along with its own historical information and location based frequency lists.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2018Date of Patent: January 15, 2019Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Sindhu Sivasankaran Nair, Tahir Shamim, Gaurav Arya, Thanigaivelu Elangovan, Lakshmi N. Patent number: 9525995Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for user equipment (UE) devices to perform a radio access technology (RAT) upgrade. A UE may initiate a background scan to upgrade RAT while camped on a first system in response to an occurrence of a first condition. The first system may include a first PLMN that operates according a first RAT. The UE may determine a second system operates according to a second RAT that provides upgraded service as compared to the first RAT. The second system may be included in one or more systems found during the background scan. The UE may attempt to register on the second system based on the second PLMN operating according to the second RAT. The first and second PLMNs may each have an associated operator preference and the first PLMN may be preferred over the second PLMN.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2015Date of Patent: December 20, 2016Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Emmanuel Grenier-Raud, Gaurav Khanna, Harshit Chuttani, I-Chun Fang, Thanigaivelu Elangovan, Yifan Zhu, Rajesh Ambati, Lakshmi N. Publication number: 20160073331Abstract: Instead of barring an LTE network for the Long Bar Time duration (LBT) if the LTE cell doesn't support CSFB, a wireless communication device may perform a scan for LTE networks before expiration of the LBT if the UE has changed its location. When the UE is in LTE acquisition mode, or the necessary information about a CS network for CSFB is unavailable, the UE may maintain its state on both the LTE and CS network, and check CS paging messages to see if the UE can decode any status. Unlike for CSFB, checking for overhead messages may be performed over the LTE system, and the UE may wake up on CS pages to determine if a suitable network is available. By maintaining its state on both types of networks, the UE may use LTE for data services which would otherwise be provided by different systems for the CS networks when messages transmitted over LTE do not include CS registration information.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 3, 2015Publication date: March 10, 2016Inventors: Swaminathan Balakrishnan, Sindhu Sivasankaran Nair, Tarik Tabet, Sarma V.
