  • Publication number: 20240020160
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided to enable a virtual FlatSat and distributed node architecture. The virtual platform may be or include a SaaS platform that enables multiple users to access computing nodes. The computing nodes may enable the users to test hardware sub-systems by connecting to the SaaS through a remote computer, or to test virtual hardware on the SaaS platform without use of the remote computer. Testing of physical or virtual hardware sub-systems on the remote computer may include application API execution that mimics local software, reducing the likelihood of failed testing of the hardware sub-systems.

  • Patent number: 10736005
Abstract: Client devices may have internet and other services available simultaneously from a number of different networks such as wide area mobile broadband networks and local area networks such as Wi-Fi and Ethernet. In cases where a client device is receiving internet service from a local area network, the client device may still need to maintain the communication link with a wide area mobile broadband network even when not actively using its services. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable a client device with mobile broadband connection capability and at least one local area connection capability to power off its mobile broadband modem but still be connected to mobile broadband network through the internet service which the client device may receive from the local area network. Powering off the mobile broadband modem of a client device may help reduce its power consumption.

  • Patent number: 10681521
Abstract: Emergency notification systems, such as Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) and AMBER alerts, as well as emergency help request systems, such as E911, are generally centralized systems. Often the first responders for emergencies may not be near the people who need assistance which may sometimes cause unacceptable delays in responding to emergencies. A method and apparatus are disclosed that offer a distributed and decentralized emergency notification and response system that informs and engages the people in the immediate vicinity of the person requiring assistance and enables dissemination of more detailed information beyond what may be provided by conventional emergency services systems.

  • Patent number: 10674430
Abstract: Client devices may access internet service from a number of different sources such as mobile broadband networks, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, etc. Client devices generally connect to only one of the available internet services at a time. Client devices may not always be fully accessing the available internet service. A client device may benefit by using the internet service that is available to but not used by other client devices. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable client devices to coordinate with other client devices and coordinate with the internet service providing entities to pool the internet service from multiple internet service sources through some client devices and distribute to other client devices.

  • Patent number: 10536921
Abstract: In some scenarios it may be useful for a client terminal to know the location of one or more base stations in a wireless communication network. While a network may know its location accurately, it may not necessarily provide that information to client terminals. Furthermore, the location information for a base station may be required before a client terminal can communicate with a particular base station. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable one or more base stations to determine their respective locations and efficiently provide that information to client terminals in broadcast, multicast or unicast manner. A client terminal may use the base station location information for improved client terminal and network performance, improved user experience, and reduced power consumption.

  • Patent number: 10530604
Abstract: Mobile communication services that include voice calls, text messages, and internet are transitioning from circuit switched to packet switched networks such as internet. Although internet usage by mobile devices is on the rise, voice calls and text messages continue to be routinely and widely used. Most users at home or office may typically have phones that may be primarily based on wired connections. Although the eventual connection to the network may be wired, cordless phones may be used within the premises to connect with the base of the cordless phone which may connect to the wired network. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable multi-user service with single broadband internet service in a base device and distribute the voice and text message service to the other users in the local premises. This may enable reduced cost and power consumption along with improved performance and user experience.

  • Patent number: 10420022
Abstract: A mobile Hotspot is a device that includes a modem for mobile broadband access and a Hotspot Access Point to distribute the internet to local client devices which may not have mobile broadband access. Client devices may start getting internet service from a mobile Hotspot and at some point may stop using the internet service. However, the mobile Hotspot device may continue to broadcast the signals even when none of the client devices are requiring internet service. Furthermore, the mobile Hotspot device may continue to perform required operations to maintain connectivity with the mobile network using the mobile broadband modem even when there is no need for it on the client device side. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable a mobile Hotspot to reduce power consumption when the there are no client devices connected to it or when the client device not requiring internet service.

  • Patent number: 10405270
Abstract: Internet access has become ubiquitous and the means by which it is obtained varies widely. A mobile Hotspot is a device that includes a modem for mobile broadband access and a Hotspot Access Point to distribute the internet to local devices which may have only WLAN connectivity. The internet service attributes such as data rate, latency, cost, performance, power consumption, and security vary widely depending on where and how the internet service is obtained such as using a mobile broadband connection or using wire-line connection. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable adaptive and seamless selection of the best internet service from available networks considering a plurality of selection criteria including availability, data rate, latency, cost, performance, power consumption, and security. Methods for network selection based on user configurable priority or based on measurement of performance metrics or combination thereof are provided.

  • Patent number: 10368308
Abstract: Internet, voice calls, and messaging services have become ubiquitous and the means by which the services are accessed varies widely. The number and types of devices that may use these services have also proliferated. To serve a number and variety of client devices, a mobile Hotspot may be used, which is a device that may include a modem for mobile broadband access and a short range wireless link to distribute the services to local devices which may have such connectivity. Power consumption of battery powered client devices is an important consideration. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable a client device to receive broadcast information about the mobile networks from a mobile Hotspot over a short range wireless link which may reduce power consumption of client devices.

  • Patent number: 10334531
Abstract: As the variety and number of wireless client devices have increased, often there may be multiple client devices in close proximity of each other. In addition to the connectivity to the wireless wide area network (WWAN), the client devices may have short range link to directly connect with each other. Two or more client devices in a given area may be camped on the same cell of the same WWAN, and the client devices may be decoding the paging information from the same cell. A method and apparatus are disclosed such that a client device may decode the paging information from the WWAN and relay the WWAN paging information to other client devices over the short range link. This may enable other client devices to avoid having to decode the paging information directly from the WWAN which may reduce their power consumption.
