Patent number: 10715261Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing feedback for cancellation of signal impairment in a plurality of separate transmit paths of a transmitter are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method includes receiving a plurality of outbound signals transmitted to the antenna array, the received outbound signals having traversed separate transmit paths of the transmitter. The method also includes converting the plurality of received outbound signals to a corresponding plurality of parallel baseband signals. The corresponding plurality of parallel baseband signals are serialized into a serial feedback signal.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2016Date of Patent: July 14, 2020Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventor: Slim Ben Ghalba

Patent number: 10644813Abstract: A method and system for time domain calibration to compensate for signal phase impairment in transmit paths in a transmitter configured to drive an antenna array are disclosed. According to one aspect, a base station is configured to compensate for signal impairment in transmit paths feeding an array of antenna elements in which the compensation is performed in the time domain. The base station includes a combiner configured to combine signals output from the transmit paths to form a feedback signal. An impairment estimator is configured to receive the feedback signal and outbound traffic signals and to determine a phase compensation value for each impairment path. A multiplier is provided for each transmit path, the multipliers configured to multiply the outbound traffic signals by respective phase compensation values.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2016Date of Patent: May 5, 2020Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Neil McGowan, Slim Ben Ghalba, Marthinus Willem Da Silveira

Patent number: 9882612Abstract: Embodiments of a system for a multi-sector base station in a cellular communications network are disclosed. In one embodiment, the system includes an integrated unit, where the integrated unit includes multiple antennas and a radio unit (RU) coupled to the antennas. By integrating the multiple antennas and the radio RU into a single integrated unit, the system can, in some embodiments, reduce installation and operating costs of the multi-sector base station.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2014Date of Patent: January 30, 2018Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Marthinus Willem Da Silveira, Neil McGowan, Slim Ben Ghalba

Patent number: 9270493Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for estimating impulse responses of multiple channels, e.g., multiple antenna sub-array paths of a base station, in a distributed manner. In one embodiment, a method of operation of a Scalable Estimation Ring (SER) processing component in a SER that operates to estimate impulse responses of corresponding channels is provided. In one embodiment, the method includes, during a first iteration of the SER, receiving a feedback signal for the SER processing component and computing an initial estimate of an impulse response of a corresponding channel based on the feedback signal, removing a contribution of the corresponding channel from the feedback signal based on the initial estimate of the impulse response of the corresponding channel to thereby provide a feedback signal for a next SER processing component in the SER, and outputting the feedback signal for the next SER processing component in the SER.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2014Date of Patent: February 23, 2016Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Marthinus Willem Da Silveira, Neil McGowan, Slim Ben Ghalba

Patent number: 8705595Abstract: Devices and methods related to devices capable to perform digital output power measurement besides attenuation control are provided. A device includes a digital signal processing unit, a transmitter and a feedback receiver. The digital signal processing unit is configured to control attenuation along a transmission path and a feedback path based on a comparison of a power of a digital input signal with a raw power of a corresponding digital feedback signal, and to calculate an output power value of an analog RF signal to be broadcasted, using the raw power of the digital feedback signal and one or more feedback gain factors related to gain in the feedback receiver.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2011Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Kris Bailey, Slim Ben Ghalba, Peter Zahariev Rashev

Publication number: 20130012149Abstract: Adaptive gain regulation is performed by measuring one or more real-time closed-loop statistics for a signal output from a gain-controllable circuit and blindly adjusting the gain of the gain-controllable circuit based on the one or more real-time closed-loop statistics measured for the signal so that the signal output by the gain-controllable circuit satisfies a predetermined criteria without using a priori information about the signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 6, 2011Publication date: January 10, 2013Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Slim Ben Ghalba, Mihai Parvan, Peter Zahariev Rashev
