  • Publication number: 20030190167
Abstract: The present invention provides a regenerator device for wavelength division multiplexed optical signals designed to regenerate the N channels of a multiplex simultaneously, the device being characterized in that it comprises at least one regenerator component (112, 152) suitable for coupling the inlet signal with a multiplex of N optical carriers, the regenerator component (112, 152) being constituted by a material presenting a spectrum line with non-uniform broadening so that there is no interaction between the various channels involved within the component.

  • Publication number: 20030184837
Abstract: The invention concerns a saturable absorbent structure comprising a stack of layers forming a succession of quantum wells and barriers and a plurality of recombination centres distributed in said stack. The invention is characterised in that the recombination centres are made of a material such that they define with the materials of the stack one or several energy levels in the forbidden band of energy defined between the conduction band and the valence band of the wells of the stack.

  • Patent number: 5734486
Abstract: An optical signal switch identifies the routing of each optical packet, directs each packet arriving at any input to the output corresponding to the routing, and includes delay lines through which the optical signals pass selectively. The switch has three stages: a first stage directing each optical packet received at an input to a chosen delay line, a second stage coupled to the output of the delay lines to direct the optical packets selectively to the output corresponding to the determined routing, and an output third stage.

  • Patent number: 5544193
Abstract: A vertical emission laser structure comprising an active region between stacks of layers forming Bragg reflection mirrors respectively of the n-type and of the p-type, wherein: the stacks of layers are formed by different pairs of materials in the n-type mirror and in the p-type mirror; the pair of materials constituting the n-type mirror comprises materials having a conduction band gap that is narrow or even non-existent; and the pair of materials constituting the p-type mirror comprises materials having a valance band gap that is narrow, or even non-existent.

  • Patent number: 5511088
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for fabricating a semiconductor optoelectronic device comprising an active region in strip form. The process comprises the stages consisting in 1) producing various layers (120, 130, 140, 150, 160) making up the complete structure of the optoelectronic device by a single epitaxy; 2) etching the structure obtained in stage 1) down to the base of the active layer (130) of the optoelectronic device to isolate a strip in the said active layer; 3) depositing an electrically isolating material of controlled index (170) on the etched zone. The invention also relates to the devices obtained.

  • Patent number: 5256968
Abstract: A system for measuring an electrical signal in a frequency range substantially equal to the bandwidth the signal close to the gigahertz includes two laser sources. A first laser source emits a first light wave which is polarized, then amplitude-modulated by the electrical signal through an electro-optic medium. A second laser source emits a second light wave which is polarized, and then is combined with the amplitude-modulated wave to produce a measurement wave characterizing the phase and frequency of the electrical signal to be measured. The beat between the frequencies of the two polarized waves is checked thereby transposing the measurement wave into the frequency range.

  • Patent number: 5041778
Abstract: A spectrum analyzer for a variable amplitude and frequency electric signal includes an optical modulator responsive to the signal that derives a first optical wave having intensity and frequency components corresponding to the signal amplitude and frequency components. An optical analyzer responds to the first optical wave to derive a second optical wave having intensity variations at frequency components corresponding to the amplitude of the electric signal at the frequencies in the spectrum of the signal. The optical analyzer includes a tunable optical cavity responsive to the first optical wave to derive the second optical wave.
