  • Patent number: 11084273
Abstract: An article of manufacture is disclosed that comprises an infill made from linear segments of filament, such as but not limited to continuous carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic filament. Approaches to tool path generation are addressed in which material runs of filament are applied that distribute where cuts, beginning, or ends of segments occur or points where two ends of segments are fused or the like to preserve filament continuity by reducing the number of short segments. Aspects of one approach include identifying long edges and eliminating short edges which acute angles with long edges and utilizing a clipping outline as part of the process of determining start and end points of material runs.

  • Patent number: 11084224
Abstract: An article of manufacture is disclosed that includes an infill generated utilizing three dimensional (3D) printing. Infill is generated utilizing segments of filament, such as, but not limited to continuous carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic filament. Other materials may also be suitably employed. Approaches to tool path generation which accomplish the 3D printing desired are addressed in which material runs of filament are applied that distribute where cuts, beginning, or ends of segments occur or points where ends of segments are anchored to the article to form the desired infill. Aspects of one approach include first generating a meta tool path for the infill and then adapting that tool path to an actual infill tool path by pruning any segments in the meta tool path extending outside the perimeter of the article and identifying anchor points to the article from observed intersections of the meta tool path and said perimeter.

  • Patent number: 11046035
Abstract: An article of manufacture is disclosed that comprises an infill made from linear segments of filament, such as but not limited to continuous carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic filament. Feathering approaches are addressed to generate segments of filament in various geometries that distribute where cuts or ends of segments occur or points where two ends of segments are fused or the like to avoid overlap. Aspects of one approach include identifying long edges and eliminating short edges which present acute angles.

  • Publication number: 20200156323
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods for printing a three-dimensional (3D) object, comprising processing a computer model of the 3D object to generate a strength or stress profile of the computer model. Next at least (i) the strength or stress profile from processing the computer model and (ii) a topology of the 3D object may be used to generate a tool path for printing the 3D object. Printing of the 3D object may be simulated using the tool path to yield a simulated 3D object. The simulated 3D object may be analyzed to determine whether the simulated 3D object meets a threshold. If the simulated 3D object meets the threshold, printing instructions comprising the tool path may be generated for use by a 3D printer to print the 3D object.
