Abstract: A method of and apparatus for constructing a user profile using a content tag, a method of recommending digital content by using a user profile including a tag included in the digital content and a preference value for the tag. According to the methods and apparatus, a user profile is generated by using a content tag, and thus the taste of the user according to digital content consumption can be expressed in more varied ways. Also, by suggesting a method of generating a tag from web content, construction of a user profile for digital content having no tag is enabled. Furthermore, a tag extracted from digital content used by a user is included in a profile and it can be used for a variety of purposes, such as expansion of a comparison scope, use of preference keywords, providing of content links, and expansion of search scope.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for sharing media using a social network in a communication system are provided. A method of a transmit terminal for sharing media using a social network includes transmitting to a media server, identification information relating to at least one counterpart terminal, generating media comprising location information associated with the media, and registering the generated media to the media server. A method of a receive terminal for sharing media using a social network includes transmitting to a media server, identification information relating to at least one counterpart terminal, transmitting location information of the receive terminal to the media server, and receiving from the media server, media corresponding to the location information among media registered by the at least one counterpart terminal.

Abstract: A handover apparatus and a handover method performing a fast handover in an environment of various communication networks having different communication standards, the handover method, which is performed in a mobile node (MN) that moves between different types of networks, including determining whether a signal received from a node that connects the MN to a first type network contains network information indicating that the MN moves from the first type network to a second type network; and selectively performing a handover between the first and second type networks based on the determination results. Therefore, the MN can predict whether it moves to a new network, thereby performing a fast handover.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for managing content data of a portable terminal. for the method allows the portable terminal to be able to assign a user's preference on content data by assigning the preference on the content data to data information such as meta-data. The apparatus includes a preference manager configured to assign a preference on acquired content data, and a content manager configured to determine a transmission priority and sorting rule for the content data by confirming the assigned preference.

The apparatus to perform a fast handover includes a signal receiving unit to receive a signal, a subnet change determining unit to determine if a subnet change has occurred by referring to an access router identification (ID) included in the received signal, a trigger unit to perform a layer trigger depending upon the determination result as to whether a subnet change has occurred, and a handover performing unit to perform a handover according to the layer trigger.

Abstract: Provided is data transmission method and apparatus. A method for transmitting data from a first device to a second device includes detecting information on a communication environment of the first device; receiving information on a communication environment of the second device from the second device; and adjusting the QoS of the data transmission in an application layer based on at least one of the information on the communication environment of the first device and the information on the communication environment of the second device. Accordingly, when a sender transmits data to a receiver, the QoS of data transmission can be adjusted by considering communication environments of the sender and the receiver, and thus optimized data transmission can be achieved.

Abstract: A header compression and packet transmission method in a sensor network and an apparatus therefor, for selecting technologies related to Internet Protocol (IP) header compression according to characteristics of each node, and processing the technologies. The header compression and packet transmission method and apparatus therefor distinguishes a node supporting the adaptation layer function and a node that does not support the adaptation layer function, and determines whether to compress the packet, thereby enabling a node transmitting data to transmit the data having a proper form that is acceptable to a sensor node receiving the data. By doing so, an efficient packet transmission is possible.

Abstract: A method and system establish a bi-directional tunnel through direct communication between a tunnel end point (TEP) and a user node without user assistance. The method includes: operating the user node in order to establish the bi-directional tunnel, wherein operating the user node includes: requesting network information necessary for establishing the bi-directional tunnel to the DHCP server; when the user node receives the network information from the DHCP server, establishing a unidirectional tunnel from the user node to the TEP based on the received network information; requesting one of the TEPs to establish the unidirectional tunnel; and when the user node receives a router advertisement (RA) message of a second network with which the user node wishes to communicate from the TEP required to establish the unidirectional tunnel, establishing an address of the user node in the second network.

Abstract: A technology of detecting MIHP information before an OSI layer 3 process is performed. A method of performing Media Independent Handover (MIH) includes analyzing a field for indicating Internet Protocol (IP) version information, if a value of the field for indicating IP version information corresponds to an MIH layer, performing a process of the MIH layer and performing a process of an IP layer, and if a value of the field for indicating IP version information does not correspond to the MIH layer, directly performing the process of the IP layer. Accordingly, an IP layer that is the third layer of the OSI 7 layers can determine without performing a separate operation whether an MIH process is performed. Thus, a delay of a processing speed of a device can be prevented, resulting in an increase of QoS of a network.

Abstract: A system providing a tunnel service capable of data communication between different types of networks. A method of setting an address of a tunnel router in a user node includes: transmitting a message requesting at least one tunnel router address to a tunnel service support server; receiving a message including at least one tunnel router address from the tunnel service support server; and storing the tunnel router address included in the received message. According to the system and method, the address of a tunnel router providing a tunnel service to a user node can be more easily set, and even when the address of the tunnel router changes or a new tunnel router is added, the address of the tunnel router can be easily set without the user manually changing the address of the tunnel router.

Abstract: An apparatus for and method of acquiring an address in a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) environment in a wireless LAN. The method includes: sensing that a mobile node has moved from a first network to a second network; transmitting a frame requesting association with the second network to an access point managing the second network after sensing that the mobile node has moved from the first network to the second network; and receiving a message containing an address assigned to the mobile node from the access point having received the transmitted frame. Accordingly, the mobile node can promptly acquire an IP address without an additional request.
