  • Patent number: 7224177
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining the presence or absence in a motor lock error in a sensorless motor. The method includes the steps of: driving the sensorless motor; determining whether or not a predetermined time elapses after the sensorless motor has been driven; measuring a current applied to the sensorless motor after the lapse of the predetermined time; calculating a difference between the measured current with a predetermined reference current; and determining the presence or absence of a motor lock error in the sensorless motor by determining whether the determined difference is equal to or higher than a predetermined reference difference, so that it quickly determines the presence or absence of a motor lock error in the sensorless motor without using a sensor and prevents an overcurrent from flowing in the sensorless motor, resulting in the prevention of a faulty operation or damage to the sensorless motor.

  • Patent number: 6842928
Abstract: An improved method for detecting a laundry weight in a washing machine employing a sensorless BLDC motor is provided. The motor is rotated until the washer reaches a first speed. The washer then operates in a torque control mode for a predetermined amount of time, and a laundry weight is then determined based on a speed of the motor after the predetermined amount of time has elapsed. In this manner, laundry weight can be accurately determined and the laundry can be effectively washed. Additionally, since a washing machine employing this improved method for detecting does not require a hall sensor and its peripheral circuit manufacture is simplified, and thus cost may be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20030009832
Abstract: A method for detecting a laundry weight in a washing machine employing a sensorless BLDC motor includes the steps of: determining whether a first predetermined time elapses after a motor is initiated and reaches a certain speed; and controlling the motor in a torque control mode when the first predetermined time elapses and detecting a laundry weight on the basis of the motor speed after a second predetermined time elapses. A laundry weight can be accurately measured and the laundry can be effectively washed even in an environment that a voltage is not regularly applied. In addition, since the laundry weight detecting apparatus of a washing machine employing the sensorless BLDC motor does not include a hall sensor and its peripheral circuit, its construction is simple and thus its price can be reduced.
