Abstract: A 3-aminobenzoic acid or a 3-aminobenzenesulfonic acid, when reacted with a 4-aminoantipyrine in aqueous medium in the presence of hydrogen peroxide forms a novel colored dye which is believed to be a charge-transfer complex of free radicals formed from the 3-aminoaromatic acid and the 4-aminoantipyrine. The dye and the process by which it is produced are useful in analytical procedures for hydrogen peroxide, as well as in enzymatic analyses involving the formation of hydrogen peroxide.

Abstract: Phenols are prepared by decomposing secondary aromatic hydroperoxides in the presence of a compound comprising at least one metal atom or cation or at least one non-metallic cation and at least one moiety derivable from an anion of the formula ##STR1## wherein S is a sulphur atom; Y represents an atom of sulphur or oxygen, or a group of the formula =V--R' wherein V represents an atom of nitrogen or phosphorus and R' is a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group; and X is a group of the formula ##STR2## wherein each R represents a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group and recovering the required phenol or substituted phenol from the decomposition product.

Abstract: Phenols are prepared by decomposing aromatic organic hydroperoxides in the presence of a compound comprising at least one metal atom or cation or at least one non-metallic cation and at least one moiety derivable from an anion of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each independently a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group and Y represents an atom of oxygen or sulphur or a group of the formula ##STR2## wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group and X is oxygen or sulphur.

Abstract: Phenols are prepared by decomposing aromatic hydroperoxides in the presence of a catalyst comprising a compound containing a heterocyclic ring of the structure ##STR1## wherein S.sup.1 and S.sup.2 each independently represents a sulphur atom or a sulphoxide or sulphone group.
