  • Publication number: 20180250083
Abstract: A surgical instrument is described that includes a surgical effector moving with N degrees of freedom for manipulation of objects at a surgical site during surgical procedures. The N degrees of freedom are manipulated by N+1 input controllers and a plurality of cables, the controllers and cables coupled to the surgical effector and configured to change the orientation of the surgical effector about the N degrees of freedom when actuated. In some embodiments, the N+1 input controllers and plurality of cables are further coupled to a pantograph, the pantograph configured to move in a reciprocal manner to the surgical effector when the input controllers and cables are actuated.

  • Publication number: 20180011533
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for discerning the intent of a device wearer primarily based on movements of the eyes. The system may be included within unobtrusive headwear that performs eye tracking and controls screen display. The system may also utilize remote eye tracking camera(s), remote displays and/or other ancillary inputs. Screen layout is optimized to facilitate the formation and reliable detection of rapid eye signals. The detection of eye signals is based on tracking physiological movements of the eye that are under voluntary control by the device wearer. The detection of eye signals results in actions that are compatible with wearable computing and a wide range of display devices.

  • Publication number: 20170285742
Abstract: An electronic system generates at a display virtual writing corresponding to tracked motion of the tip of a pointer with respect to a surface based on proximity of the tip of the pointer to the surface and the gaze of a user's eye. The electronic system determines the location and motion of the tip of the pointer with respect to the surface based on images captured by scene cameras, and determines the focus and gaze direction of the user's eye based on images captured by a user-facing camera. By generating virtual writing at the display corresponding to tracked motion of the tip of the pointer based on proximity of the tip of the pointer to the surface and based on the focus and gaze direction of the user's eye, the electronic system can enable virtual writing and associated collaboration services without the need for a specialized writing surface or pointer.

  • Publication number: 20160117161
Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for installing and updating software systems. Aspects of the invention include selecting software update packages that automatically installs essentially any number of code changes for any number of software components to update a software system (e.g., a cloud appliance). In one aspect, a software system is updated by implementing a software update package that includes: references to code changes for a plurality of software components and references to installation artifacts for installing the code changes, and also indicates interdependencies between the plurality of software components. In another aspect, validation code is used to validate that a software update package transitioned a software system to a goal state. In a further aspect, a multi-pass installation process is orchestrated to perform portions of a software update package in a plurality of different passes.

  • Patent number: 9021655
Abstract: A cleaner head is described for use with a vacuum cleaning appliance including a fan unit for generating an air flow which passes from the cleaner head to the fan unit. The cleaner head includes a rotatable agitator assembly including an agitator for sweeping dust particles. The agitator assembly is housed in an agitator chamber housing including a downwardly-directed opening through which dust particles energized by the agitator enter the cleaner head, and a dust outlet located adjacent the opening and through which the energized particles leave the agitator chamber. The cleaner head also includes an exhaust port from which a dust-bearing air flow is drawn from the cleaner head, and a dust channel extending between the dust outlet and the exhaust port. The dust channel has channel walls which are shaped to retain energized dust particles therebetween through collisions thereagainst.

  • Publication number: 20150078861
Abstract: A removable vehicular registration plate fastener utilizes hitches that are attached to the front grill of a vehicle and hitch receivers that are attached to the vehicle's registration plate to temporarily secure the registration plate to the vehicle. The hitches are attached to the grill by a flange and a washer, which the grille is compressed between. The registration plate is secured between the receiver body and a plate attachment cap. A standoff with a ferromagnetic hitch cap is connected to the flange and is received by a hitch receiver. A magnet within the receiver body forms a magnetic bond with the hitch cap, securing the hitch within the hitch receiver. Two pairs of hitches and hitch receivers may be used for when the vehicle is not in motion, or four pairs may be used for a more secure attachment for when the vehicle is to be driven.

  • Patent number: 8752256
Abstract: A method for preparing a surface, previously roughed in a mechanical manner and comprising sharp-edged ridges and recesses, on metal workpieces for applying a thermally sprayed layer. The roughened layer is machined by hammer or percussion brushes with a rapidly rotating hammer or percussion brush having a plurality of resilient percussion wires that are oriented in a radially outward manner, such that the edges of the ridges are broken in order to improve the adhesion of the subsequently applied thermally sprayed layer or are at least curved forming rear sections. The brush rotates at a high rotational speed of approximately 3000-6000 rotations per minute and is displaced laterally with its rotational axis being at a parallel distance that remains constant in relation to the surface of the workpiece such that percussion wires distributed on the periphery of the brush impact with the ends thereof of the surface areas adjacent to the workpiece at an oblique angle that is less than 90° in rapid succession.

  • Patent number: 8745818
Abstract: A cleaner head for a vacuum cleaning appliance includes a main body having a downwardly-directed suction opening and at least one surface engaging support member, a front agitator and a rear agitator, with each agitator being rotatable relative to the main body, and a mechanism for rotating the front agitator and the rear agitator. The front agitator has a relatively flexible pile and the rear agitator has relatively stiff bristles arranged to dislodge matter from the pile of the front agitator. The pile of the front agitator and the at least one surface engaging support member extend downwardly beyond the bristles of the rear agitator so as to space the bristles of the rear agitator from a relatively hard surface to be cleaned.
