  • Publication number: 20150101640
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for de-icing railway trucks and ore concentrate in railway trucks. The arrangement comprises a tunnel (2) having a number of discharge openings (3) for heated air which is used for de-icing and at least one exhaust opening (4) for used air. An air heater (5) is in communication with the discharge openings (3) through a supply air duct (6). The arrangement further comprises a water supply device arranged to supply water to the air heater (5) and/or the supply air duct (6). The capacity of the air heater (5) is high enough to heat the air to a temperature sufficient for vaporizing at least a portion of the water. The invention also relates to a corresponding method for de-icing.

  • Patent number: 5106063
Abstract: This invention relates to a container for materials, preferably scrap iron for steel production and intended to be placed on a stand in a preheating station in order that the scrap iron shall be heated up to a high temperature. The container includes an essentially cylindrical upper part and a lower part comprising openable bottom halves. The upper part of the container (1) and each bottom half (4) comprise a gas-tight shell (2;15) and a load-carrying frame-work (5,6,7,8;10,11,12,13) positioned outside the shell (2;15) and functioning as a support for the gastight shell.

  • Patent number: 5074906
Abstract: A method and an installation for recovering energy in the thermal destruction of pollutants in a gas emitted from a scrap preheating device (6,8), e.g. in an electro-steel furnace (1). The polluted gas is conducted through regenerative heat exchangers (12,15) before or after passing through a combustion chamber (4), for providing heat exchange between the polluted cold gas and the cleaned hot gas. The regenerative heat exchangers (12,15) are filled with a packing of a material suitable to be charged into the furnace (1) generating the gases which are used in the scrap preheating process, or into another nearby furnace. The packing is withdrawn completely or partly when the performance of a heat exchanger has deteriorated as a result of oxidation or clogging with dust. A new packing is supplied to the heat exchanger concerned, and the packing withdrawn is charged into one of said furnaces.

  • Patent number: 4812117
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and a device for pre-heating waste metal for furnaces, fuel gases generated in a furnace (1) being supplied simultaneously or sequentially to two pre-heating places (3, 4) with waste metal containers (14), said flue gases being made to flow through a combustion chamber (19) provided with a burner (20) before being supplied to the pre-heating places (3, 4), said burner (20) producing a variable amount of hot gases for admixture with the flue gases from the furnace (1) and superheating thereof. After flowing through the waste metal containers (14) burnt flue gases are supplied to a gas cleaning plant (5) for flue gases and unburnt flue gases to the combustion chamber (19) for further combustion, after which the flue gases now burnt are supplied to said gas cleaning plant (5).

  • Patent number: 4403327
Abstract: At least one arc furnace and at least one induction furnace are connected to the same AC network, the induction furnace being connected via a controllable alternating voltage converter so as to permit compensation of active power fluctuations in the network caused by operation of the arc furnace and the induction furnace being designed to contain scrap for its inductive preheating before charging in the arc furnace.

  • Patent number: 4363653
Abstract: Solid pieces of metal, such as steel scrap and ferrous pellets, are charged in a basin having a refractory inside and progressively melted down by an electric induction heater positioned above the basin and the charge. As melt collects in the bottom of the basin it is continuously or intermittently tapped into a storage container having heating means for keeping the melt molten. This prevents the melt level in the basin's bottom from rising uncontrollably.

  • Patent number: 4315124
Abstract: An inductive billet heating apparatus in an inductive heating furnace for billets of rectangular section uses a plurality of paired heater modules having a flat shape. The billets are fed by a plurality of paired roller elements and each heater module in each pair of heater modules is suspended from respective ones of the paired roller elements on opposite sides of the billet such that a substantially constant distance from the opposite surfaces of the billets to the respective heater modules is independent of the thickness and/or straightness of the billets. At least some of the heater modules may be mounted to be rotatable in a plane parallel to the respective surfaces of the billets. The heater modules may be series-connected in pairs and the paired heater modules either series-connected or parallel-connected in groups.
