Patent number: 7422103Abstract: The apparatus comprises a base portion (2) and at least two arms (1) resiliently cantilevered from the base portion (2), the inner ends of the arms (1) forming a button-like member (4) and each having a projection (4A) for engaging on the outwardly facing surface of a compact disk (10) held on the apparatus. Depression of the button-like member (4) causes the projections (4A) to move towards each other until their engagement on the disk (10) is released. An upstand (6) surrounds the disk (10) and is positioned close thereto so as to restrict movement of the disk (10) within its own plane. The inner ends (4) of the arms (1) may be shaped to reduce the risk of forces applied thereto in the plane of the disk (10) causing the disk (10) to be released. Finger recesses (6A) in the upstand may be formed so as to inhibit access to the edge of a disk (10) whilst held by the apparatus but provide access thereto once the disk (10) has been released. 3-arm release mechanisms are also described.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2006Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Meadwestvaco CorporationInventors: Stefan Alexander Pijanowski, Anthony Henry Joseph Fraser, Peter Antony Farrar

Patent number: 7404484Abstract: Apparatus (19) for holding information storage media, such as a CD or DVD, in combination with a releasable security member (8) insertable into the apparatus for inhibiting removal of the storage media from the apparatus, e.g. by inhibiting access to the storage media by locking the apparatus in a closed configuration and/or by locking the storage media to the apparatus. The apparatus is adapted, e.g. by knowing one or more slots (12, 24) therein, to receive part of the security member therein and the security has at least one projection (9A, 10A) for inserting into the apparatus, e.g. through the slot (12, 24). Modification t the apparatus to enable it to receive a security member are described as well as different types of security members. Apparatus for releasing the security member from the apparatus holding the storage media is also described.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2001Date of Patent: July 29, 2008Assignee: Meadwestvaco CorporationInventors: Peter Antony Farrar, Anthony Henry Joseph Fraser, Stefan Alexander Pijanowski, Robert Johnston

Patent number: 6935494Abstract: A container such as a CD or DVD box with a body portion having two sections (1, 2) connected to each other by a hinge portion (3) and an information display member or label (4) which includes an information layer formed as a part of the member (4) is secured by an adhesive or welded bond to one section (1) of the body portion. The information display member (4) extends across the hinge portion (3), with at least the majority thereof being unsecured to the hinge portion (3). and is secured by an adhesive or welded bond to the second section (2) of the body portion.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2002Date of Patent: August 30, 2005Assignee: Dubois, Ltd.Inventors: Anthony Henry Joseph Fraser, Stefan Alexander Pijanowski

Patent number: 6863176Abstract: The apparatus comprises: a base portion (1); inwardly extending radial arms (2) resiliently cantilevered from the base portion (1); disk-engaging means (3) at the inner ends of the arms (2) for releasably engaging the central hole of a disk (11) and supporting the center of the disk (11) away from the base portion (1). Each arm (2) has first pivot means (9) in the region where the arm (2) joins the base portion (1) and second pivot means (10) radially inward thereof. Depression of the disk-engaging means (3) towards the base portion (1) causes the inner ends of the arms (2) and the center of the disk (11), to be depressed towards the base portion (1), the arms (2) initially pivoting about the first pivot means (9) and subsequently pivoting about the second pivot means (10) until retention of the disk (11) by the disk-engaging means (3) is released. This enables the thickness of the apparatus to be reduced, e.g. to 4 mm or less.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2001Date of Patent: March 8, 2005Assignee: DUBOIS, Ltd.Inventors: Peter Antony Farrar, Anthony Henry Joseph Fraser, Stefan Alexander Pijanowski

Publication number: 20030150753Abstract: The enclosure comprises: a base portion; retaining means provided on the base portion for releasably holding a data carrier such as a CD within the enclosure; and a closure member, e.g. a plastic sheet, attached to the base portion so as to prevent removal of the CD from the enclosure, an irreversibly breakable join, e.g. a heat weld, being provided between the closure member and the base portion which, when broken, enables the closure member to be opened to allow the CD to be removed from the enclosure. The closure member may be removed entirely or may be hinged to the base portion so it is retained for use as a lid.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 3, 2003Publication date: August 14, 2003Inventors: Anthony Henry Joseph Fraser, Stefan Alexander Pijanowski

Patent number: 6523683Abstract: A storage container (10) comprising an outer shell (12) and an insertable drawer member (14) configured and dimensioned for receiving and storing information-bearing discs (16) and accompanying printed matter (17). The insertable drawer member (14) includes features (78) to store the discs (16) by contacting non-information bearing surfaces thereof as well as structure (32, 36) for selectively retrieving the printed matter together with the disc (16) from the outer shell (12). The container (10) of the invention additionally comprises a tamper seal (86) formed integral therewith which fractures the first time the drawer member (14) is withdrawn from the shell (12) for determining whether the storage container (10) has ever been opened to access its contents after it was sealed at the factory.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2000Date of Patent: February 25, 2003Assignee: DuBois LimitedInventors: Anthony Henry Joseph Fraser, Stefan Alexander Pijanowski
