  • Patent number: 8116192
Abstract: A write-once optical recording medium is described, which in addition to the write-once properties also has rewritable properties. The optical recording medium has a recording layer with at least a first recording sublayer and a second recording sublayer for recording information marks by alloying material of the at least first and second recording layers. The materials of the at least first and second recording sublayers are chosen such that the alloyed material is a phase-change material adapted for recording additional data as phase changes of the alloyed material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 21, 2009
Date of Patent: February 14, 2012
    Assignee: Thomson Licensing
    Inventor: Stefan Knappmann
  • Patent number: 8036096
Abstract: An optical recording medium to be used for a retail activation solution is proposed. The optical recording medium is a modified ROM disk that can only be played after the application of an activation process. For this purpose at least a part of a reflective layer of a read-only area of the optical recording medium is replaced by a light sensitive layer stack that changes its reflectivity upon illumination. Also proposed are a method for producing such an optical recording medium as well as methods and apparatuses for initializing and/or activating such an optical recording medium.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 15, 2009
Date of Patent: October 11, 2011
    Assignee: Thomson Licensing
