  • Publication number: 20120316670
Abstract: A method is provided to handle portable cassettes removeably disposed in a data storage library, wherein the method supplies a data storage library comprising a plurality of storage slots, and a plurality of portable cassettes removeably disposed a designated storage slot in a first alignment order, and a pass-through accessor comprising a moveable fixturing apparatus to store portable cassettes, wherein the pass-through accessor is moveably disposed in the data storage library. The method positions the pass-through accessor adjacent an open end of a designated storage slot, and sequentially removes and attaches to the fixturing apparatus a plurality of portable cassettes from the designated storage slot. The method then transports the plurality of portable cassettes to a designated location within the data storage library.

  • Patent number: 8139315
Abstract: A storage slot for removably holding and aligning data storage cartridges of differing dimensions. Two bowed leaf springs are positioned within the storage slot, at two side walls and opposite from, respectively, two opposite side walls. The bowed leaf springs extend in a direction parallel to a direction of insertion and withdrawal of a data storage cartridge, and are fixed at the end closest to the opening. A bowed portion of each bowed leaf spring forms a ramp surface towards the opening and towards a corresponding opposite side wall. The bowed leaf springs are located a distance from the corresponding opposite side wall to form an interference fit with the smallest dimensioned data storage. The bowed leaf springs thus provide compression toward a data storage cartridge, to hold and align the data storage cartridge against the opposite side wall.

  • Publication number: 20110314339
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a method for handling errors includes detecting that an error has occurred in a machine in a system, determining an error ID associated with the error, determining that the error should be reported to a host system for further analysis based on the error ID, determining that one or more actions should be taken by the system based on the error ID, and sending information corresponding to the error to the host system after it is determined that the error should be reported to the host system. In another embodiment, a system includes a processor and logic for performing the method. According to another embodiment, a computer program product includes a computer readable storage medium having computer readable code embodied therewith for performing the method. Other methods, systems, and computer program products are also described according to more embodiments.

  • Publication number: 20110276843
Abstract: A method for intelligently reporting errors is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, such a method includes detecting an error and determining whether the error belongs to an error group. Such an error group may include errors that together are an indicator of a potentially more serious error or condition. The method may further determine whether all errors in the error group have occurred within a specified time period. If all errors in the error group have occurred within the specified time period, the method automatically sends a notification to an administrator or other hardware or software-based system so that the problem or error can be addressed. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also disclosed herein.

  • Patent number: 8009058
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for sensing the presence and/or misplacement of mechanical sub assemblies (MSAs) within storage slots of automated storage libraries. Each MSA is tracked based on signed empty cell barcode labels. Signed empty cell barcode labels are utilized to uniquely identify the frame, column, and row coordinates of one or more MSAs. The storage library automatically scans all signed empty cell barcode labels utilizing a scanner mounted on a robotic device. The system provides a counter for each MSA, allowing the storage library to track the usage of the MSA. As usage of the MSA reaches a predefined lifecycle, the library automatically generates an alert to replace the MSA. When a MSA is rearranged within the storage library, the library automatically maps the new frame, column, and row coordinates of the MSA.

  • Publication number: 20110066645
Abstract: A method and system may allow inputting data into a database of financial information from multinational sources (e.g., in the form of documents), and searching over that data. One agent may add or upload a document relating to a corporation, metadata for the document may be generated, and another agent may validate the metadata or the document. Based on the document type, the document may be divided into portions and tagged. An automatic process (e.g., a “crawler”) may collect documents on corporations. A user may search over the documents, where the original documents are in a language different from the user's search language.

  • Patent number: 7778974
Abstract: A method to archive log entries created by a data storage system comprising a first memory and a library log encoded in that first memory, wherein the first memory comprises a storage capacity, and wherein the method writes a plurality of log entries to the library log, wherein each log entry comprises a log entry time. At a time T0, the method copies to a log archive the plurality of log entries written to the library log, and sets a subsequent retrieval time based upon a time T1 when an earliest log entry was written to the library log, and a time T2 when a latest log entry was written to the library log.

  • Publication number: 20100138137
Abstract: In a method for reading and/or storing injector-specific data for controlling an injection system of an internal combustion engine, an injector is charged by a control unit according to a predeterminable voltage curve and, depending on the case, is discharged directly by the control unit or by a power element located on a data storage medium and the voltage is measured by the control unit and by the data storage medium. Dependent upon a predeterminable voltage curve, a predeterminable amount of data is stored or read on a memory unit of the data storage medium.
