  • Publication number: 20080232328
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for localization of a mobile device in a distributed antenna communications system. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, a distributed antenna system includes a plurality of distributed antennas that are communicatively coupled to a hub. A mobile communications device to be located is communicatively coupled to the hub via one or more of the antennas. The method for locating the mobile device comprises: receiving a message at the hub that identifies the mobile device to be located; discriminating among communications signals received from each of the distributed antennas using a channel and a spreading code to identify a signal from the mobile device; identifying messages from the mobile device to be located; and determining which of the antennas is closest to the mobile device to be located by monitoring received signal strength of the identified signal.

  • Publication number: 20080151846
Abstract: The present invention is a system for and a method of providing one or more remote coverage areas for wireless communications. In an embodiment, a system for providing a remote coverage area for wireless communications comprises a local system that generates a first radio communication signal and a remote system located geographically remote from the local system. The remote system comprises a first converter that converts the first radio communication signal to a stream of data packets, a network that receives the stream of data packets from the first converter; and a second converter that receives the stream of data packets from the network and generates the remote coverage area by converting the stream of data packets to a second radio communication signal.

  • Publication number: 20070105664
Abstract: A tennis racquet that provides audio or visual feedback to a player. Sensors sense the impact of a ball on the racquet. A feedback indictor provides visual or audio feedback. A controller controls the indicator based on data provided by the sensors. In an entertainment mode, feedback is provided based on any ball impact. In a training mode, feedback is based on a ball impact within a sweet spot of the racquet. The sensors may collect performance data such as number of impacts, location of impacts, ball speed and racquet angle. A communication link may be provided to download the performance data to an external device.

  • Publication number: 20070064921
Abstract: A called device plays a ring tone provided by a calling device to signal an incoming call from the calling device. A ring tone recorder may provide the caller generated ring tone from the calling device to the called device. The ring tone recorder records a ring tone for the calling device, and then provides the recorded ring tone to a called device to signal an incoming call from the calling device.

  • Publication number: 20050148368
Abstract: A radio base station in a mobile communication network collects information about the network and exchanges data with a configuration device, the Internet System Manager (iSM). The iSM automatically configures and integrates the base station into the network by defining configuration parameter settings that allow fill interoperation of the base station with the network, with regards to roaming and handover in particular, without the need to add or modify parameter settings in other existing network elements. A very large number and high geographical density of such base stations is supported with full interoperation between them, allowing to overcome limitations of conventional mobile communication networks in this regard, by utilizing a certain combination of parameter settings and a new method to address the different base stations in the network.

  • Publication number: 20040023692
Abstract: Techniques are described for splitting a base transceiver station into digital and rf functions. With relatively low cost simulcasting clusters of rf remotes located to define coverage areas and master base transceiver stations connected to the rf remotes by suitable wireline connectors, such as Ti lines, the bulk of the digital functions can be located anywhere that is desired. Numerous, small, low cost, low power rf remotes may be advantageously mounted on existing structures such as light poles, telephone poles, and the like to achieve desired areas of coverage cost effectively and with a high degree of flexibility with respect to meeting future increases in need for additional capacity.
