Patent number: 6863366Abstract: A cleaning system for a fluid ejector arrangement employing a single roller for handling different fluids that should not be mixed. The single roller is divided into portions assigned to respective fluids. In embodiments, the single roller is used to clean a plurality of ejectors, in which case each section of the roller handles one ejector. In other embodiments, the single roller is used to clean a single ejector that ejects to a plurality of fluids, in which case each section of the roller handles one fluid. Still other embodiments can employ a plurality of ejectors and a plurality of fluids ejected from one or more of the ejectors, wherein each section of the roller is assigned to a particular fluid, whether the fluid be ejected from the same ejector or from a different ejector.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2003Date of Patent: March 8, 2005Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Karai P. Patent number: 6782228Abstract: Media removal apparatus having a stripper finger structure for separating the lead edge of an imaging media such as plain paper from a heated fuser roll and a stripper baffle for separating the portion of the imaging media beyond the lead edge of the imaging media from the heated fuser roll. The stripper finger structure is supported for movement between a home or standby position and an active position, with the finger tips in constant contact with the heated fuser roll, for effecting separation of the media's lead edge from the heated fuser roll. Likewise, the stripper baffle structure is supported for movement between home or standby positions to its active position where it effects separation of a portion of the imaging media beyond its lead edge.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2003Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Kenneth R. Rasch, Paul M. Fromm, Stephen D. Cipolla, Erwin Ruiz, Gregory P. Miller, David R. Kamprath, Richard C. Benton

Patent number: 6454386Abstract: Methods and systems for maintaining the concentration of cleaning solutions for cleaning print heads at an effective cleaning level throughout the life of a printer in which the print heads are installed include holding the cleaning fluid in one or more holding tanks. Contaminated cleaning solution in each of the one or more holding tanks is maintained at a suitable contamination/clean solution ratio by adding fresh solution and drawing off contaminated solution from one or more of the one or more holding tanks. The cleaning fluid is recirculated to and from one or more print head cleaning chambers and the one or more holding tanks.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2000Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Karai P. Premnath, Stephen D. Cipolla

Patent number: 5642876Abstract: In an on-line printed sheets output handling system for the sequential output by a reproduction system, in which the printed sheets are registered in neatly superposed sets which are optionally fastened together by a finishing system, which is laterally repositionable to provide variable set finishing; a lateral registration system for said printed sheets output is repositionable with said finishing system, and has a sheet registration member engaging and laterally registering the printed sheets to selectable variable lateral sheet registration positions by the finisher lateral movement repositioning system rather than a separate lateral repositioning system, with a registration disengagement system for moving the sheet registration member out of registration engagement with the sheets after a set of sheets has been laterally compiled and before the finishing system is laterally repositioned.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1996Date of Patent: July 1, 1997Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Joseph J. Ferrara, Stephen D. Cipolla, William E. Kramer, Raymond A. Naramore, L. James Rolph

Patent number: 5189475Abstract: A toner concentration sensor is located adjacent a transport auger within the developer sump. The toner concentration sensor projects from the bottom wall of the developer sump towards the transport auger to an extent that the sensor overlaps with the blade of the auger. A portion of the auger blade is notched to avoid contact between the auger blade and toner concentration sensor. The position of the sensor allows for accurate toner concentration sensing due to the active flow of toner material across the surface of the sensor.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1991Date of Patent: February 23, 1993Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Peter G. Fournia, Stephen D. Cipolla

Patent number: 5155444Abstract: A method for measuring the gap between a roller and an adjacent member in an electrophotographic printing machine is disclosed wherein a flexible sensor is provided and passed into the developer sump area in the printing machine. The flexible sensor is passed between the roller and adjacent member for measuring the distance therebetween. The flexible sensor is comprised of a capacitance sensor and a metal laminate. As the sensor is passed between the roller and adjacent member, the sensor is magnetically attracted to the roller and conforms to the circumference of the roller. The adjacent member can be a trim bar within the developer sump.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 1991Date of Patent: October 13, 1992Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: William J. Green, Stephen D. Cipolla

Patent number: 5148223Abstract: A developer dispenser is disclosed that has a substantially enclosed rigid housing with a side wall and a pair of end walls, an opening in the side wall, and a flexible developer mover disposed within the housing. The developer mover has one edge pivotably secured to the side wall, a second edge in sliding contact with the side wall, one surface facing the side wall and the other surface facing the opening and engaging the developer in the housing. The developer mover bends flexibly about an axis parallel to the side wall to move the surface facing the side wall toward the wall and away from the opening. When developer is contained in the housing between the developer mover and opening, the weight of the developer deflects the developer mover away from the opening. In turn, the developer mover resiliently urges the developer toward the opening.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1990Date of Patent: September 15, 1992Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Stephen D. Patent number: 4850303Abstract: A developer apparatus for electrostatographic printing machine includes a developer assembly having a developer housing containing a developer sump, a developer exit port at the top portion of the sump to purge developer material and a removable developer waste sump for cooperative association with the developer exit port which includes a developer storage chamber, an opening through which developer may enter the chamber which is in developer receiving engagement with the developer exit port on the housing. The developer waste sump has at least one exhaust port above and in communication with the storage chamber to permit air which has any entrained toner removed therefrom to escape from the waste sump and including a pin on the bottom of the waste sump which is releasably secured to a fastening device on the housing.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1988Date of Patent: July 25, 1989Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Stephen D. Cipolla, Paul W. Burnham, Carl W. Holland
