    Abstract: A method for preparing an aminoalkoxysiloxane comprises reacting a siloxane having at least one Si--X bond with an aminoalcohol of the general formula HO--R--NR.sup.1.sub.2 and removing HX from the reaction mixture, wherein X is a hydrogen atom, an --OH group or an --OC(O)NR.sup.1.sub.2 group, R is a divalent substituted or unsubstituted alkylene or arylene group, and R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from one to eighteen carbon atoms. The siloxane and aminoalcohol are preferably HO(Me.sub.2 SiO).sub.4.5 H and ethanolamine, (Me.sub.3 SiO).sub.2 MeSiH and ethanolamine, isopropanolamine or 3-aminopropan-1-ol, or Me.sub.3 SiO(Me.sub.2 SiO).sub.3 (MeHSiO).sub.5 SiMe.sub.3 and isopropanolamine respectively. The aminoalkoxysiloxanes thus prepared are useful for treating textile fabrics.

    Abstract: A method for preparing a viscosity stable amido functional polysiloxane having a group .dbd.NCO(CHR).sub.n OH connected with a silicon atom of a siloxane unit of the polysiloxane comprises;i) preparing a viscosity stable intermediate amino functional polysiloxane having one or more siloxane units according to the general formula R.sup.2.sub.q' (HR.sup.4 N R").sub.r' SiO.sub.(4-(q'+r'))/2, any remaining units of the intermediate being of the general formula R.sup.2.sub.q SiO.sub.(4-q)/2, by condensation polymerisation;ii) adding an alcohol or substituted alcohol to the intermediate or to organo-silicon compounds used to produce the intermediate by condensation polymerisation, the alcohol or substituted alcohol being of the general formula R.sup.1 OH, wherein R.sup.1 is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group of from 4 to 30 carbon atoms, and;iii) reacting the viscosity stable intermediate polysiloxane resulting from ii) with a lactone of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R and n are as defined above.

The invention also includes a method of making fabrics waterproof and permeable to water vapour by coating it with such copolymer.
