Publication number: 20030043282Abstract: A method and camera have selective exclusion of electronic images from first in-first out overwriting. In the method, a first plurality of electronic images are captured in the camera and the camera memory is filled to capacity with those images. A second plurality of electronic images are then captured in the camera. One or more of the electronic images are selectively assigned individual tags. During the capturing of the second plurality of electronic images, untagged images in the memory are replaced on a first in-first out basis and tagged images in the memory are retained. One or more of the tags are terminated. The terminating redefines the tagged images as untagged images. The terminating is independent of the capturing.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2001Publication date: March 6, 2003Applicant: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Stephen G. Malloy Desormeaux

Publication number: 20030026610Abstract: A camera has a body and a capture system disposed in the body. The capture system is actuable to capture an archival image and an assessment image. The capture system defines a different field of view for each of those images. The field of view of the assessment image is larger than the field of view of the archival image. A display unit mounted on the body, shows a first portion of the assessment image corresponding to the field of view of the archival image and is selectively switchable to show a second portion of the assessment image that is non-concentric with the field of view of the archival image. In a method using the camera, an electronic image defining the assessment field of view is captured; then the different portions of the assessment field of view are selectively displayed in alternation.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 17, 2001Publication date: February 6, 2003Applicant: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Stephen G. Patent number: 4752795Abstract: A film drive in a camera is actuated to advance a filmstrip from a cartridge to position respective frames on the filmstrip for exposure. Normally the film drive is disabled to prevent advancement of the filmstrip when the camera is in a non-picture taking or storage mode, as for example when an integral lens cover of the camera is closed. An exception is created, however, whereby the film drive may be actuated to initialize a fresh film load by advancing the filmstrip to position its first frame for exposure even though the lens cover is closed. This is possible when respective sensor devices in the camera determine that a cartridge is in the camera but the filmstrip has not been initialized. Exposure of the first frame on the filmstrip can not occur unless the lens cover is opened.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1987Date of Patent: June 21, 1988Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Stephen G. Malloy-Desormeaux

Patent number: 4724451Abstract: Normally in a camera, when a release button is manually depressed, a shutter is actuated to expose a section of film. Then, a motorized drive is actuated to re-set the shutter and advance the film for the next exposure. Conversely, when a cartridge of fresh film is loaded in the camera, the release button is manually depressed to actuate the motorized drive to position the film for the first exposure. However, according to the invention, the shutter is prevented from being actuated in order to avoid the need for the motorized drive to have to re-set the shutter. This allows the motorized drive to dedicate its full torque to overcoming the break-away load needed to advance the film from the cartridge for the first time.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1987Date of Patent: February 9, 1988Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Stephen G. Malloy-Desormeaux

Patent number: 4714335Abstract: A film rewind button and a door release button are located on the body of a camera. The rewind button is manually movable from an original position to a rewind position to initiate automatic rewinding of an exposed filmstrip back into a light-tight cartridge in the camera. The release button is manually movable from a latch position for securing a rear door of the camera closed to a release position for releasing the door to permit it to be opened in order to remove the cartridge from the camera. As a safeguard against the door being mistakenly opened before rewinding of an exposed filmstrip is initiated, there is provided protective means for preventing the release button from being manually moved from its latch position to its release position unless the rewind button is first manually moved from its release position to its rewind position.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1986Date of Patent: December 22, 1987Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Stephen G.
