The display screen includes at least one region of a select color designated to convey a first set of information and a plurality of adjustable areas designated to convey a second set of information. The plurality of adjustable areas overlay at least a portion of the at least one region of select color of the first set of information. Moreover, each adjustable area is defined by an outline and a color encased in the outline.

Abstract: Traffic collision and avoidance systems and methods for a host aircraft. The system receives traffic information from one or more target aircraft, determines threat levels of target aircraft associated with the received traffic information, generates one or more objects based on the determined threat levels and a pre-defined threat level, and displays the generated one or more objects that are associated with threat levels within the pre-defined threat level. A first indicator that indicates lateral position relative to the host aircraft and a second indicator that indicates vertical direction of travel of the associated target aircraft are also displayed.

Abstract: An improved system and method for eliminating terrain color confusion in aircraft displays are disclosed. An aircraft display system is described that includes a database for storing terrain data, a processing unit, an altitude determination unit, and a visual display. As the aircraft proceeds along a flight path, the processing unit determines the aircraft's current position and compares associated terrain elevation data stored in the database with altitude data received from the altitude determination unit. For example, if the processing unit's comparison of the stored terrain data and altitude data indicates that relative terrain data need not be displayed, then the processing unit provides absolute terrain color renderings to the display.

Pilot tasks include “direct-to”, “hold”, “procedure turn”, “cross with flyover”, “show info”, “orbit”, “radial”, and the like. According to various embodiments, certain dialog boxes include graphical functionality and incorporate ‘human factors’ enhancements such that information is efficiently presented in a manner that corresponds to air traffic control instructions.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for reducing display clutter and improving the readability of a display by enhancing the display of a selected item or class of items while at the same time de-emphasizing the non-selected items or classes of items. The enhancement of a selected item or class of items may be accomplished in a number of ways, including, but not limited to enhancing the size, color, or other characteristic of the item, including the addition of textual information associated with the selected item. Likewise, the non-selected item(s) may be de-emphasized in a number of ways including, but not limited to decreasing the size thereof, changing the color thereof, increasing the transparency thereof, or otherwise modifying the item to make recognition and use of the selected item easier.
