  • Publication number: 20120085811
Abstract: The invention provides clad billet for hot working plastic deformation processes for the production of clad products, including, but not limited to, clad pipe and tubing by extrusion of a hollow, bicomponent composite billet having a fully dense structural component and a partially dense component of a specialty alloy at a fraction of porosity predetermined to provide a flow stress compatible with that of the structural component. The components are diffusion bonded to the predetermined fraction of porosity in the specialty component by application of heat and pressure over time, including by hot isostatically pressing the billet components. Computer modeling techniques can be used to determine processing conditions for obtaining flow stress compatibility.

  • Patent number: 6878412
Abstract: A process of fabricating a corrosion and erosion resistant component. In one embodiment, the process entails applying one or more corrosion resistant materials onto a pre-formed, sacrificial core and then enclosing this first material and the core with a surrounding capsule. Any space within the capsule is then substantially filled with a second material, after which the capsule is sealed and treated to cause the second material to densify and to metallurgically bond to the first material. Thereafter, the core material and capsule are removed via chemical and/or mechanical processes to yield a component with a shape that approximates the space that existed between the capsule and the first material, and with an outer surface that reflects the shape of the outer surface of the core and the inner surface of the capsule.

Date of Patent: April 12, 2005

  • Publication number: 20020136917
Abstract: A metallic tube for transporting corrosive, abrasive, and erosive industrial flow streams. The tube has an outer tube material consisting of consolidated metallic powder bonded to an inner tube material consisting of a corrosion- or wear-resistant, weld- or spray-deposited material. The tube has a bend in it of at least about 45°, such as a U-bend, which would normally inhibit the weld- or spray-deposition of the corrosion- or wear-resistant inner tube material.
