  • Patent number: 6241466
Abstract: A turbine airfoil includes pressure and suction sides extending between leading and trailing edges and defining an internal cooling air passage. A row of trailing edge holes is disposed in flow communication with the air passage behind the trailing edge. The airfoil is sized in conjunction with an adjacent airfoil for accelerating combustion gases along the pressure side at the trailing edge holes to a velocity at least as high as the velocity of the cooling air discharged from the holes.

  • Patent number: 6200087
Abstract: A turbine nozzle includes inner and outer bands having respective air inlets. A plurality of hollow vanes are integrally joined to the bands in flow communication with the inlets. Each vane includes first and second cooling channels extending between the bands which are separated by an inclined septum which converges the two channels away from the corresponding inlets for reducing pressure drop as the cooling air is discharged.

  • Patent number: 4643645
Abstract: A stage of an axial flow turbine includes a plurality of spaced apart buckets and a plurality of spaced apart nozzle partitions, each plurality respectively circumferentially aligned about and axially spaced from each other along a rotor of the turbine. The nozzle partitions are circumferentially spaced such that a minimum throat extends a predetermined radial distance from the root, thereby forming a converging-diverging flow passageway between nozzle partitions. The trailing edge of the nozzle partitions are disposed to include axial and tangential lean with respect to the rotor. Buckets include a plurality of covers respectively connecting the tips and having a single outward radially extending sealing rib on the radially outer surface of each cover, wherein each rib is tangentially aligned with respective adjacent ribs. Buckets are overtwisted to compensate for untwist at operational speed to achieve optimum efficiency.
