  • Patent number: 9222433
Abstract: An apparatus includes a recreational vehicle genset having an engine and a generator. The apparatus includes a fuel injection system having a primary fuel reservoir, a secondary fuel reservoir, and a fill pump that receives fuel from a primary fuel reservoir and is fluidly coupled to the secondary fuel reservoir at the pump outlet. The apparatus includes a reservoir fuel indicator that provides a fuel amount signal corresponding to the fuel in the secondary fuel reservoir, and a pressure regulator that relieves pressure in the secondary fuel reservoir at a threshold relief pressure. The apparatus includes an injection pump that provides pressurized fuel from the secondary fuel reservoir to a fuel injector for the engine. The apparatus further includes a controller having a pump regulation module that interprets the fuel amount signal, and that selectively provides a fill pump operation command in response to the fuel amount signal.

  • Patent number: 5125236
Abstract: A combined generator set and air conditioning compressor drive system is disclosed for use in a mobile vehicle. The disclosed device includes an auxiliary engine, a compressor, and a motor-generator. When an external source of electricity is unavailable, the motor-generator is shaft driven by the auxiliary engine and operated as a generator to provide electricity to the vehicle. The compressor is also shaft driven. When an external source of electricity is available, the motor-generator operates as a motor so as to drive the compressor.

  • Patent number: 4962838
Abstract: A clutch plate assembly (24) for a vehicle driveline includes a spring damping mechanism (28) disposed in parallel with a viscous shear damper mechanism (30) for damping spring recoil. The spring damping mechanism includes a set of pairs of relatively high rate helical compression sprigs (34,36) for transmitting torque and attenuating torsionals when a transmission input shaft (22) is connected to a load and a set of relatively low rate helical compression springs (38) connected in series with the high rate springs (34,36) for attenuating torsionals when the shaft (22) is not connected to a load. The viscous damper mechanism includes an annular housing (48) having first and second radially extending sidewalls (52,54) defining a compartment (48a) having a clutch assembly (50) disposed therein for viscous clutching coaction via a viscous shear oil.

  • Patent number: 4705149
Abstract: A fluid coupling device is disclosed of the type including a rotatable coupling assembly (73) including a housing member (75) and a cover member (77) which define a fluid chamber therebetween. A coupling member (71) is disposed in the fluid chamber and its forward surface and adjacent surface of the cover member (77) define a viscous shear space. The cover member (77) includes a plurality of cooling fins (85) disposed on the forward surface of the cover member. The coupling assembly (73) defines a maximum predetermined radius R. The cover member (77) and housing member (75) are joined at an annular outer urface (93) and an annular inner surface (97), these surfaces being disposed rearwardly of the shear space. The cover member (77) defines an annular inner surface (101) which is the outer periphery of the fluid chamber. The coupling member (71) includes an annular inner surface having a radius in the range of about 0.87 R to about 0.

  • Patent number: 4683999
Abstract: A fluid coupling device is disclosed of the type including an input coupling member (11) rotatably disposed within an output coupling assembly (13). A portion of the output coupling assembly comprises a cover member (17) which cooperates with a housing member (15) to define an operating chamber (31). A valve plate (29) separates the operating chamber (31) from a fluid reservoir chamber (33) and defines a fill opening (41) to permit fluid flow from the reservoir chamber into the operating chamber. In a primary embodiment, the cover member (17) defines a radial passage (79) which is disposed to communicate fluid from the reservoir chamber (33) to the operating chamber (31).

  • Patent number: 4502580
Abstract: A fluid coupling device is disclosed of the type including an output coupling (13) and an input coupling member (11). The speed of operation of the coupling device is determined by the amount of fluid in the operating chamber (37), and fluid communication from the reservoir chamber (41) into the operating chamber is controlled by movement of a valve arm (49) relative to a fill opening (50). The fill opening includes an outer edge (79) which is disposed at an angle relative to a radial line, such that the valving is of the modulating type, i.e., movement of the valve arm in response to increasing temperature results in radially outward movement of the outermost point of the flow area. In accordance with the invention, the valve arm defines an included open area (73) having a leading edge (74) and a trailing edge (75). The flow area is determined by the area of overlap (77,81) of the open area (73) and the fill opening (50).

  • Patent number: 4281750
Abstract: A fluid coupling device is disclosed of the type including an output coupling assembly (13) which defines a fluid operating chamber (37) and a fluid reservoir chamber (41). Rotatably disposed within the operating chamber is an input coupling member (11), including a disc-like portion (31), which defines rearward lands (61) and forward lands (65). The lands defined by the input coupling member cooperate with the lands (63 and 67) defined by the output coupling assembly to define rearward and forward shear spaces, operable to transmit torque from the input member to the output assembly. The disc-like portion defines a plurality of fluid passages (71) which communicate between the inner and outer radial peripheries of the disc-like portion, and also communicate with both the forward and rearward shear spaces. During filling, fluid flows radially outward through the fluid passages, and directly into the shear spaces, to substantially reduce the response time of the coupling device.
