Abstract: A panel assembly comprises first and second bi-parting panel groups. Each group has at least a first and a second panel movable between a retracted and an extended position for opening and closing the panel assembly. The second panel in each group travels farther than and across the first panel in each group when the panels move between their retracted and extended positions.

Abstract: A starter assembly which is used to provide a staggered running start for horses racing around an oval track comprises a base portion which mounts the assembly in a vehicle moving at the front of the race and a gating system comprising a central gate member which is located between a pair of corresponding gate arms. The central gate member is pivotally secured to the base portion for swinging the central gate member from a race starting position extending diagonally of the track, and after the race has started, to a ready to fold position perpendicular the track with the gate arms in line with the central gate member. The gate arms are then folded forwardly in a balanced manner at opposite ends of the central gate member.

Abstract: The present invention provides a building structure with a two part roof including a first generally horizontal top fixed roof part and a second roof part extending downwardly outwardly from the first roof part and formed by sliding panels for retractability of the second roof part. The first and second roof parts are separated by a first roof support which is under compression with a second roof support which is under tension being provided below the second roof part.

Abstract: A guideway for use for example as an elevated roadway is constructed by forming guideway units comprising a massive elongated metal channel having one or a plurality, usually at least three, tubular metal tension void members running lengthwise down its interior and connected to its inside walls along its entire length. The void forming members are connected to the channel walls via longitudinal web members. Transverse shear connectors may also be provided above the void-forming members. The ends of the channel are closed and after hoisting each unit into position on spaced supports which engage beneath its ends it is filled with settable material, usually concrete, which encloses the tubular members to form a composite structure. The side walls preferably are inclined inward between a bottom sheet and the top vertical portions of the side sheets to give an aesthetic appearance, provide streamlining and reduced unwanted dead weight.
