  • Patent number: 8137774
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions comprising ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers, tackifying resins and optionally polyolefins (for example, polyethylene and polypropylene) that provide strong, tight hermetic heat seals with an easily peelable opening feature to fluoropolymers such as polychlorotrifluoroethylene. Also disclosed are multilayer structures and packages comprising these compositions.

  • Publication number: 20090025873
Abstract: A composite building panel that includes a fabric reinforcing sheet between one of the metal skins and the core of the panel. The fabric reinforcing sheet, which is preferably made from aramid fibers improves the impact resistance and penetration resistance of the building panel without substantially increasing weight and without adding fuel content to the panel system.

  • Publication number: 20080145581
Abstract: Multilayer laminate compositions are provided wherein at least one layer of the laminate comprises a blend of a) an organic acid and ethylene/acid copolymer or ethylene/acid that are at least partially neutralized with a metal ion and b) an ethylene homopolymer or copolymer of ethylene and an alpha-olefin form at least one layer of a multilayer laminate. At least one other layer of the laminate is a gas impermeable composition consisting essentially of a material selected from the group consisting of polyvinylidene chloride, ethylene vinyl alcohol polymers, polyamides, metal foils, metallized films or liquid crystalline polyesters and mixtures thereof. The gas permeable layer is easily peelable and may be separated manually from the gas impermeable layer of the laminate. The laminates are useful in packaging applications, including manufacture of lid stock.

  • Patent number: 6855432
Abstract: The present invention provides a resin composition made from admixing starting materials comprising: (a) 0 to 90 parts by weight of a polyolefin; (b) 5 to 95 parts by weight of a functional polyolefin; (c) 5 to 40 parts by weight of a polystyrenic; and (d) 0 to 30 parts by weight of an elastomer, where the total amount of components of (a), (b), (c) and (d) in the resin composition is 100 parts by weight. In a further embodiment, component (a) is a non-olefin copolymer and component (c) is high impact polystyrene. The resin compositions are useful as adhesives for metal and polyolefin substrates.

  • Patent number: 6299985
Abstract: Polyethylene-based adhesive compositions which contain as little as 5 weight percent, and up to 35 weight percent of an acid-grafted metallocene polyethylene have superior peel strength to comparable compositions containing an acid grafted non-metallocene and EVA or EMA polyethylene. Compositions where the acid-grafted metallocene polyethylene component is based on a metallocene polyethylene having a melt-flow ratio of less than 6.53 and an Mw/Mn of greater than the melt flow ratio less 4.63 are as good adhesive compositions as those based on metallocene resins falling outside these parameters.

  • Patent number: 5744250
Abstract: The present invention relates to bonding resins having excellent adhesion to polar polymers, particularly ionomers, acid copolymers and ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer. These resins preferably contain: 1) an ethylene polymer or copolymer (ungrafted, grafted or partially grafted); 2) a grafted elastomer; and 3) optionally, an ethylene alpha olefin copolymer which is wholly or partially grafted. Preferred grafting comonomers include maleic anhydride and derivatives thereof.
