    Abstract: A cable connector includes an insulative housing including two sidewalls and a mating slot defined between the two sidewalls, and a plurality of terminals received in the insulative housing. The terminals include contacting portions exposed to the mating slot and connecting portions behind a rear end of the insulating housing. The two sidewalls are loaded with a first row and a second row of the plurality of terminals respectively. The first row includes signal terminals and grounding terminals. A grounding plate is inserted in the insulating housing and between two rows of terminals. The grounding plate defines resilient arms and connecting legs, the resilient arms slant to the first row and touch with the grounding terminals.

Those contacts are categorized with the differential pairs, the grounding contacts and the power contacts while each of the contacts includes a front contacting section exposed upon the mating tongue, a middle retention section retained to the insulator, and a rear tail section extending out of the housing. A metallic shielding/reinforcement plate associated with the terminal module is assembled into the housing, and includes a front region inserted into the mating tongue, a middle region with a spring tang to mechanically and electrically connected to the selected grounding contact, and a rear tail section extending out of the housing.

The insulative housing is formed with a base and a tongue extending forwardly from the base. The shell and the insulative housing define a receiving cavity therebetween. The two detect pins are fastened to two opposite ends of the insulative housing, respectively, each has a detecting portion located in the receiving cavity, and the detecting portions of the two detect pins are disposed offset along a front-to-back direction for being selectively pushed by the mating plug. One of the contacts is formed with a wing contacting with the first detecting portion. The electrical connector can detect insertions of different mating plugs via the detect pins.

    Abstract: A receptacle connector includes an insulative housing defining a base with a mating tongue. A plurality of contacts are disposed in the housing with contacting sections exposed on the mating tongue. A metallic shell is assembled to the housing and defines a mating cavity into which the mating tongue extends. A plurality of spring tangs are formed on the shell and extend into the mating cavity for retainable abutment against the inserted plug. A dome switch is located outside of the shell and intimately confronts the corresponding spring tang so as to be activated when the corresponding spring tang is outwardly deflected by the inserted plug. An addition detect pin is electrically connected to the dome switch when the dome switch is activated to verify whether the plug is inserted in the mating cavity or to identify whether a high power is required.

The metallic shell defines a mating cavity surrounding the mating tongue and has a plurality of spring tangs extending into the mating cavity. A detect member is assembled to a bottom of the electrical connector, and includes a printed circuit board with some dome switches under corresponding spring tang and some additional detection pins electrically connecting the dome switches. When the plug is inserted, the spring tangs will deflect downwardly and activate the dome switch.
