  • Publication number: 20120200415
Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of methods and apparatus related to detection of substance(s) at a distance. For example, an apparatus can have a mount structure and an emitter mounted to the mount structure and configured to be trained on a target. The emitter can have a source configured to emit radiation and a mirror configured to direct the radiation toward the target. The apparatus can also have a collector mounted to the mount structure and configured to be trained on the target at the same time the emitter is trained on the target and concentrate collected radiation on a sensor. The apparatus can also have a detection system comprising the sensor and an interferometer configured to produce an interferogram. The processor can be configured to perform a Fourier transform on the interferogram to produce a spectrogram and analyze the spectrogram to determine presence or absence of known substances in or around the target.

  • Patent number: 5689389
Abstract: A low profile swage mount for connecting a disc drive actuator arm to the load beam of a head suspension assembly and including a base plate formed on one side with an opening and having a hollow hub disposed on the opposite side. The hub is formed with an inner swaging surface having a diameter approximating the diameter of the base plate opening to give the swage mount torqe retention characteristics comparable to conventional swage mounts much larger in size.

  • Patent number: 5591277
Abstract: A method for thermally conditioning a disc drive swage mount to enhance torque retention capability and plate stiffness wherein the swage mount is baked in an oxygen depleted environment to an elevated temperature within a predetermined range of temperatures which activates inherent frictional properties therein and controllably cooled non-linearly through a series of thermal cycles then instantaneously quenched to alter the material grain structure forming the swage mount. After the component is quenched, it is returned to ambient conditions for assembly into such disc drives.

  • Patent number: 5168741
Abstract: A method for molding a stainless steel sheet into a complex airfoil-shaped cover for the leading edge of a jet engine blade wherein the sheet is positioned between a male and female mold having an airfoil-shaped protrusion and recess, respectively, on either side of which are disposed a plurality of pairs of complementary tongue and grooves of shorter length than that of the recess and protrusion. After the sheet is removed from between the molds the portion formed between the recess and protrusion is trimmed to the shape of the cover.
