Publication number: 20110194534Abstract: In a cellular communications network, it may be desirable for a large number of basestations to share one or a small number of scrambling codes. When a basestation identifies a desired scrambling code, which is also being used by another nearby basestation, steps are taken such that a location area update is triggered whenever a mobile communications device moves from a coverage area of the nearby basestation into a coverage area of said basestation. Further, the basestation establishes a first cell, using the desired scrambling code, and also establishes a second cell also served by the basestation, using a second scrambling code. By ensuring that mobile devices are preferentially served by the second cell, the possibility of interference with the nearby basestation is reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2009Publication date: August 11, 2011Applicants: UBIQUISYS LIMITED, PERCELLO LTD.Inventors: Rafy Carmon, Amir Appel, Stephen Whittaker, Alan Carter

Publication number: 20110159926Abstract: A basestation, for use in a cellular communications network, is adapted to provide a cellular communications service in at least one active cellular communications network by transmitting signals on system downlink channels of the active network and by receiving signals on system uplink channels of the active network. The basestation is also adapted to receive signals on system downlink channels of the active network. Further, the basestation is adapted to receive signals on system downlink channels of at least one additional network, although it is unable to transmit signals on system downlink channels of the additional network. The additional network may operate in accordance with a different cellular standard from the active network, and/or may be operated by a different cellular network operator from the active network.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 21, 2009Publication date: June 30, 2011Applicant: UBIQUISYS LIMITEDInventor: Stephen Whittaker

Publication number: 20110081915Abstract: In a femtocell basestation of a cellular communications network, there is a potential difficulty that the basestation may be unable to select a scrambling code for its transmissions, without the risk of interference with other basestations using the same scrambling code. The femtocell basestation receives from a management system a list comprising at least one allowed scram-bling code for femtocell basestations, and also detects, in information broadcast by at least one macrocell basestation, at least one allowed scrambling code available in an area containing the basestation. If it is determined that use of each scrambling code that is allowed and is available in an area containing the basestation would cause interference with another femtocell basestation, a pa-rameter is set to ensure that a user equipment would perform a location update when moving between the coverage areas of said basestation and the other femtocell basestation. The parameter may be a MIB and/or SIB value tag.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2009Publication date: April 7, 2011Applicant: UBIQUISYS LIMITEDInventors: Aminu Wada Maida, Alan Carter, Stephen Whittaker

Publication number: 20110039596Abstract: A basestation, for use in a cellular communications network, has a mechanism for reporting its transmit power. When the transmit power of the basestation is outside a reportable range, it reports an adjusted transmit power within the reportable range, and also transmits an adjustment factor, by which the adjusted transmit power differs from the transmit power. The basestation is also configured to adapt its power settings based on a reported transmit power of at least one other basestation, and is further configured to detect the reported transmit power of the at least one other basestation and to detect an adjustment factor transmitted separately by the at least one other basestation, and to adapt its power settings based on a sum of the reported transmit power and the adjustment factor.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2009Publication date: February 17, 2011Applicant: UBIQUISYS LIMITEDInventors: Aminu Wada Maida, Stephen Whittaker, Damien Le Gresley

Publication number: 20110012032Abstract: Improved electron beam sterilization apparatus and shielding techniques for use in are provided. A controller modulates an electron beam when sterilizing an interior to an object to ensure that adequate dose is received. Sterilization carousels are configured with input/discharge feeds to reduce the possibility of humans being exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. The system reduces the amount of shielding required to thereby lower cost of installation.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2010Publication date: January 20, 2011Inventors: Michael Lawrence Bufano, Steven Raymond Walther, Peter F. Hays, William Frederick Thomson, Arthur Wayne Sommerstein, Gerald Martin Friedman, P. Michael Fletcher, Stephen Whittaker Into, Anne Testoni, Brian S. Phillips

Publication number: 20100216408Abstract: A basestation in a cellular communication system corrects frequency errors in signals generated within the basestation. The frequency errors may be corrected on the basis of signals transmitted by one or more other basestations within the network. As an alternative, the basestation may request information from one or more mobile devices that are also able to detect transmissions from other basestations.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 5, 2010Publication date: August 26, 2010Applicant: UBIQUISYS LIMITEDInventors: Alan Carter, Stephen Whittaker

Publication number: 20100166157Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for indexing and organizing voice mail message by the speaker of the message. One or more speaker models are created from voice mail messages received. As additional messages are left, each of the new messages are compared with existing speaker models to determine the identity of the callers of each of the new messages. The voice mail messages are organized within a user's mailbox by caller. Unknown callers may be identified and tagged by the user and then used to create new speaker models and/or update existing speaker models.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2009Publication date: July 1, 2010Applicant: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Julia Hirschberg, Sarangarajan Parthasarathy, Aaron Edward Rosenberg, Stephen Whittaker

Patent number: 7454470Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for analyzing a collection of communication messages. The communication messages may be any one of a collection of electronic mail messages, voicemail messages, instant messaging dialogues and other forms of communications. The collections of communications, such as electronic mail messages, may be selected by a user and then subsequently processed to determine the identity of any of the user's contacts within the communications. The contacts may then be arranged in a relative priority arrangement whereby contacts which have been identified as engaging in prior reciprocal communications with the user are given higher priority. Higher priority may also be given to contacts which engage in more recent communications with the user. Specific contact relationships may be inferred from the communications depending on whether specific contacts are repeatedly mentioned within the communication messages.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2004Date of Patent: November 18, 2008Assignee: AT&T Intellectuall Property II, L.P.Inventors: Ellen Isaacs, Bonnie A. Publication number: 20080188266Abstract: A basestation for a cellular communications network is intended to provide coverage over a small area, which may be within an area that already has cellular coverage from one or more existing basestations. The basestation is therefore able to detect signals transmitted from the other basestations, in order to make measurements of the radio environment. In particular, the basestation may be able to receive signals periodically on the system downlink frequencies.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 8, 2007Publication date: August 7, 2008Inventors: Alan Carter, Stephen Whittaker, Aminu Wada Maida
