  • Patent number: 7333011
Abstract: A system and method for implementing an LED-based luminaire (100) incorporates one or more color channels (32-n). The luminaire includes a controller (50) that uses optical sensing and feedback to control LEDs (30A) in each channel to deliver a consistent intensity and/or color output. The optical feedback loop may provide measured intensity and/or color of the luminaire's output to the luminaire controller. The controller may then adjust the current, pulse width modulation (PWM) duty cycle, or both, which are delivered to discrete color channels of the luminaire to obtain the desired intensity and/or color.

  • Patent number: 7030642
Abstract: A quick attachment device for use in the repeated testing of diode light sources (30) includes a quick attachment module (10) having a fixed location with respect to a testing position (150) for the diodes (30), and a mounting assembly (20) on which each diode (30) is mounted during testing. The quick attachment module (10) includes a quick disconnect fastener and two locating pins (120a and 120b) for securing the mounting assembly (20) for testing, where the two locating pins (120a and 120b) have a locational transition fit connection with the mounting assembly (20). The mounting assembly (20) may further include a thermal-electric cooling device (260) for cooling the diode light sources (30) during testing.

  • Patent number: 6935595
Abstract: Pilot Director Lights (PDLs) mounted on the exterior of a refueling tanker aircraft (10) utilize light emitting diodes (LEDs) (213) as a light source to provide visual information to the pilot of an approaching aircraft (30). The PDLs may include a plurality of light emitting devices (200) arranged in arrays (123 and 124), each light emitting device (200) being configured to illuminate a particular symbol/pattern. Each light emitting device (200) may include a plurality of modular banks (210) of LEDs (213), which are configured to emit light through a clear lens (230) within a particular field of view. The PDL arrays (123 and 124) may provide visual feedback regarding the elevational and fore-aft position of the approaching aircraft (30) relative to the boom envelope (14) of the tanker aircraft (10).
