  • Patent number: 6880091
Abstract: A system and method are provided in a multi-function peripheral to authenticate a user. The system includes a processor and a memory that are coupled to a local network. The system also includes send logic store on the memory and executable by the processor. The send logic includes logic to input a password associated with a user, and logic to authenticate the password and to obtain a FROM field identifier associated with the user. The system also features logic to lock the FROM field identifier into a FROM field associated with a data transmission.

  • Patent number: 6823365
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining if a data set for transmission can be set directly via e-mail, given predetermined thresholds for sending, or whether it is more expedient to reroute the data set to a web site. Every time a user sends document to e-mail, transparently the size of the document and job is compared to the thresholds and the system automatically determines the best available routing, reformatting if necessary.

  • Publication number: 20020133555
Abstract: A system and method for identifying whether a communication in a computer network is directed to a destination that is internal to a company includes receiving destination information associated with a first network communication. The computer network includes a directory server, which includes a company directory that provides employee information. The directory server is accessed, and the received destination information is compared with information in the company directory. It is determined whether the first network communication is directed to a destination that is internal to the company based on the comparison of the received destination information and the information in the company directory.

  • Publication number: 20020112184
Abstract: A system and method are provided to perform a secure transfer of a digital document to a number of recipients. The system includes a processor circuit having a processor and a memory and a digital sender service stored on the memory and executable by the processor. The digital sender service comprises, for example, logic to map from a number of destination addresses to a respective number of security identifiers, and, logic to add a number of access privileges to the digital document via a network using the security identifiers. The digital sender service also includes logic to post the digital document on a server accessible via the network. In addition, the digital sender service includes logic to generate and transmit a number of email messages to the corresponding number of destination addresses on the network. The email messages include a uniform resource locator of the digital document on the network.
