Patent number: 10705493Abstract: A system and method for selectively removing tire material from the bead portions of a cured tire to reduce one or more harmonics of at least one uniformity parameter are disclosed. According to aspects of the present disclosure, tire material is selectively removed using a plurality of direct address commands. The direct address commands specify ablation parameters for discrete ablation segments at specific angular locations around the bead of the tire. The direct address commands are generated by analyzing the desired ablation pattern for the bead of the tire. The ablation device can then be controlled to selectively remove tire material in discrete ablation segments at identified addresses pursuant to the direct address commands to achieve the desired ablation pattern on one or more tracks along the bead portion of the tire using a single pass of the ablation device.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2017Date of Patent: July 7, 2020Assignee: COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELINInventors: Verner Steve Nicholson, James Edward Stone

Patent number: 10583620Abstract: Systems and methods for correcting uniformity of a cured tire using ablation of material along a plurality of tracks along the bead portion of the tire are provided. An ablation pattern can be determined to correct for a uniformity parameter for multiple tracks along a bead portion of a tire. The ablation pattern for each track can be analyzed to determined direct address commands for implementing the ablation pattern using an ablation device. The direct address commands can be determined according to an adjustment process to improve cycle time for the ablation of a tire. The adjustment process can be operable to more closely align azimuthal positions of ablation segments specified by direct address commands for different tracks along the bead of the tire.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2016Date of Patent: March 10, 2020Assignee: Compagnie Generale des Establissements MichelinInventors: Casey Scott Appleman, Verner Steve Nicholson

Publication number: 20190199621Abstract: A process and apparatus to facilitate communication between callers and callees in a system comprising a plurality of nodes with which callers and callees are associated is disclosed. In response to initiation of a call by a calling subscriber, a caller identifier and a callee identifier are received. Call classification criteria associated with the caller identifier are used to classify the call as a public network call or a private network call. A routing message identifying an address, on the private network, associated with the callee is produced when the call is classified as a private network call and a routing message identifying a gateway to the public network is produced when the call is classified as a public network call.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2019Publication date: June 27, 2019Inventors: Clay Perreault, Steve Nicholson, Rod Thomson, Johan Emil Viktor Björsell, Fuad Arafa

Patent number: 10024763Abstract: Methods and systems for improving the uniformity of a tire by determining one or more high speed uniformity parameters of the tire are provided. The high speed uniformity parameters can be determined by continuously acquiring uniformity data while ramping the tire to and from high speeds. For instance, measured uniformity data can be continuously collected for the tire as the tire is increased to high rotational speeds and decreased from high rotational speeds. The measured uniformity data can then be analyzed to determine one or more high speed uniformity parameters for the tire. For instance, the measured uniformity data can be corrected for non-high speed uniformity contributions to the uniformity measurements, such as contributions resulting from non-uniformity of a road wheel use to load the tire during uniformity testing, contributions resulting from mass unbalance of the tire, and contributions from low speed uniformity parameters of the tire.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2012Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELINInventors: Verner Steve Nicholson, James Michael Traylor

Patent number: 9996077Abstract: A system and method for reducing the magnitude of one or more harmonica of one or more uniformity parameters in a cured tire involves selective removal of tire material at one or more track/area locations along first and second bead profiles. Selective removal may occur via ablation at the bead seat, low flange and/or high flange zones to correct for a selected number of harmonic of such parameters as radial, lateral and tangential force variation. Ablation pattern are calculated and implemented on first and second tire beads to achieve desired levels of force reduction at selected angular locations (within the expanse from 0-360 degrees along each tire bead). Ablation patterns may be calculated for implementation at fixed or varied tire rotational speeds and/or fixed or varied levels of laser power.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2014Date of Patent: June 12, 2018Assignee: COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELINInventors: Clarence Vernon Hair, Jr., Verner Steve Nicholson, Jean-Baptiste Rousseau, James Edward Stone

Patent number: 9778032Abstract: Improved and more easily implemented methods for predicting uniformity parameters such as uneven mass distribution, radial run out and high speed radial force variation utilize other measurements such as the tire crown thickness variation. When high speed radial force variation is calculated, low speed radial force variation is also measured. Tire crown thickness variation can be measured in different fashions depending on the particular tire manufacturing process employed. By electronically determining resultant uniformity parameters, tires can be improved by rectification to address the uniformity levels. In addition, tire manufacturing can be improved by altering the resultant location of tire crown thickness variation relative to other aspects of the tire and/or tire manufacturing process.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2010Date of Patent: October 3, 2017Assignee: COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELINInventors: Julien Matthieu Flament, Verner Steve Nicholson, Anton Felipe Thomas, James Michael Traylor
