  • Patent number: 9266108
Abstract: An interface is provided for storing microfluidic samples in a nanoliter sample chip. A fluid access structure provides a fluid access region to a selected subset of sample wells from an array of sample wells. A fluid introduction mechanism introduces a sample fluid to the fluid access region so that the sample wells in the selected subset are populated with the sample fluid without the unselected sample wells being populated with the sample fluid.

  • Publication number: 20150066142
Abstract: An artificial heart for use in a human recipient includes a housing within which a quartet of turbine pump segments are operative. The quartet of turbine pump segments provides a redundancy which in turn enhances the safety factor provided by the artificial heart. A controller is powered by a rechargeable battery and is operative to apply appropriate drive signals to the motor drives of the turbine pump segments. The battery may be implanted along with the controller to avoid the need for any external connections to the artificial heart. An inductively coupled battery charger for use outside the recipient's body is positioned proximate the battery charger to provide inductively coupled charging for use in driving the artificial heart.

  • Publication number: 20140367565
Abstract: A method of screening a sample for the presence of one or more known compounds of interest is disclosed. A fragmentation device is repeatedly switched between a fragmentation mode of operation and a non-fragmentation mode of operation. A determination is made whether a candidate parent ion of interest is present in a non-fragmentation data set and whether one or more corresponding fragment ions of interest are present in a fragmentation data set. A further determination is made to check if the candidate parent ion of interest and the one or more corresponding fragment ions of interest have substantially similar elution or retention times and/or ion mobility drift times.

  • Patent number: 8901330
Abstract: Alkyl esters boiling largely within the specification range for jet fuel may be made from triglycerides without a water-washing step, by centrifugation in a timely manner and at a sufficiently high time/G-force/distance product so as to bring about separation of a transitory second phase containing the residual catalyst. The esters or fractions thereof may be combined with jet or diesel fuels to lower the freezing and cloud points respectively.

  • Publication number: 20140344077
Abstract: Used industrial equipment sales systems and related apparatus and methods. Servers of embodiments store files of information regarding conditions of pieces of used industrial equipment. That information further comprises an inspection report configured to reflect the type of industrial equipment to which the piece of used industrial equipment belongs and to reflect predetermined components associated with the equipment type. Note that client devices are configured to access the file, ascertain the equipment type, and display the report. Inspection reports can include voice notes and multimedia files. Moreover, the reports can be location and/or time stamped. If desired, the client devices can indicate a service status of a piece of equipment wherein the inspection reports remain private while the service status is incomplete. In addition, or in the alternative, the inspection reports can have associated therewith indications of their trustworthiness.

  • Publication number: 20140226462
Abstract: A system of at least one wireless access device in a local area network (LAN) having a plurality of transceivers. Each transceiver has a directional antenna positioned in a substantially circular array to communicate signals with a plurality of stations in a corresponding sector. Each sector defines a portion of a coverage area surrounding the wireless access device. The wireless access device has a network interface to a data networks and an array controller to control communication of data between the stations and the transceivers, and between the transceivers and the network interface. The array controller is configured to modify channel assignments so as to minimize channel interference dynamically.

  • Patent number: 8777427
Abstract: The present invention relates to an outer dome configured to provide protection and optical correction to a system of projection optics and the output thereof. More particularly, an optical projection system having an optical offset of greater than 100% is comprised within a projector housing having an outer dome comprised of an optically active material mounted onto an opening approximately coinciding with the optical projection system's exit pupil. The outer dome is configured to be decenterized from the exit pupil (e.g., the center of the dome is offset from the exit pupil in one or more of an x, y, and z direction) such that it provides optical correction to a projected image. Therefore, an outer dome is configured to provide protection to optical elements provided therein and improvement of projected image quality (e.g., reduced image distortion, reduced aberration).

  • Publication number: 20140021694
Abstract: A wheelchair includes a frame and first and second rear wheels that are each independently mounted to the frame via a respective mounting hub. Each rear wheel is detachably mounted to its respective mounting hub at two or more distinct hub mounting points. Either or both of the hub mounting points can be movable with respect to a remainder of the hub. A disk can be positioned at the rear wheel and a stop element located at the mounting hub can be selectively operated to interfere with the disk to prevent rotation of that rear wheel. Each rear wheel may include a push-rim having an elastomeric outer layer to facilitate manual gripping and an externally facing generally flat side face. The frame can include first and second spaced apart and unitary tubes which each extend in an unbroken manner from a wheelchair seat to a wheelchair forward region.
