  • Patent number: 5089352
Abstract: Described is the presence of both a chemical cross linking agent and irradiation such as electron beam irradiation, in the manufacturing process for making an oriented, i.e. heat-shrinkable, polymeric film. The presence of both results in an amount of cross-linking that is effective to accomplish an increased orientation rate during manufacturing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 18, 1990
Date of Patent: February 18, 1992
    Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.-Conn.
Inventors: Steven B. Garland, Thomas C. Warren
  • Patent number: 5079051
Abstract: Disclosed is an oriented, heat-shrinkable, packaging film having a layer of polyamide or polyester. The film has a high shrink energy and high modulus.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 8, 1989
Date of Patent: January 7, 1992
    Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.-Conn.
    Inventors: Steven B. Garland, Donald J. d'Entremont
  • Patent number: 4909881
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of improving the adhesion between a layer of vinylidene chloride copolymer and a layer of a linear ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer and to the film produced thereby. More particularly, the invention relates to heat shrinkable films having a barrier layer of vinylidene chloride copolymer and a layer of linear low density polyethylene or very low density polyethylene and to a method for increasing the adhesion between the layers and thereby decreasing the incidence of delamination by blending the linear ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer with an ethylene/butyl-acrylate copolymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 22, 1988
Date of Patent: March 20, 1990
    Assignee: W. R. Grace and Co.-Conn.
    Inventor: Steven B. Garland
  • Patent number: 4842952
Abstract: A multilayer film is disclosed having improved adhesion between layers and consisting essentially of the following elements:(a) a layer consisting essentially of vinylidene chloride copolymer; and,(b) a layer consisting essentially of about 5-40 weight percent of ethylene/butyl-acrylate copolymer having a melting point of about 110.degree. C. blended with about 95-60 weight percent of linear ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 1988
Date of Patent: June 27, 1989
    Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.-Conn.

  • Patent number: 4778715
Abstract: Disclosed are multi-layer films having improved adhesion between layers. A film layer comprising vinylidene chloride copolymer is directly adhered to a film layer comprising a blend of ethylene/butyl-acrylate copolymer with linear ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 24, 1987
Date of Patent: October 18, 1988
Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co., Cryovac Division
Inventors: Daniel J. Ferguson, Steven B. Garland
  • Patent number: 4755436
Abstract: A multi-layer film is disclosed having improved adhesion between layers and consisting essentially of the following elements:(a) a layer consisting essentially of vinylidene chloride copolymer; and,(b) a layer consisting essentially of about 5-40 wt. % of ethylene/butyl-acrylate copolymer having a melting point of about 110.degree. C. blended with about 95-60 wt. % of linear ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer.
