  • Patent number: 10446021
Abstract: Warning systems (S) and methods (M1, M2) for alerting traffic and pedestrians within a projectable area in relation to a location and path of a vehicle (100), e.g., an articulated vehicle during forward or rearward motions and turning maneuvers. Beam(s) (98) of coherent light, e.g., high-irradiance laser light, are emitted from point(s) relative to the vehicle (100), preferably from a high angle for reducing eye exposure. Laser beam(s) map a grid on the roadway and adjacent areas of the imminent path of the turning vehicle (100), by way of a set of instructions executable by a processor. The instructions involve computing, programming, and/or updating vehicle parameters, in relation to a warning device (99), e.g., a retrofittable and/or programmable device, in response to changes in vehicle-configuration or warning system (S) location, the warning system (S) being manually or automatically triggerable in response to sensors disposed in relation to the vehicle (100).

  • Patent number: 9404758
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a representation of a vehicle path for display via a computer is disclosed, which involves receiving start location information including a start location and an initial orientation of the vehicle and end location information including a desired end location of the vehicle, and receiving a selection of a vehicle defined by parameters that define a turning behavior of the vehicle. The method involves receiving constraint information identifying at least one constraint to passage of the vehicle between the start and end locations and causing a processor circuit to generate a vehicle path for travel between the start and end locations, the vehicle path based on the turning behavior of the vehicle and being generated such that the vehicle path remains within the at least one constraint.

  • Publication number: 20150193562
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer readable medium for computer generation of a geometric layout representing a central island of a traffic roundabout is disclosed. The method involves generating a vehicle path associated with travel of a vehicle through the roundabout, generating vehicle extent locations associated with travel of the vehicle along the vehicle path, using the vehicle extent locations to determine a geometric layout of the central island corresponding to the vehicle extents, and generating output data representing the geometric layout of the central island.

  • Patent number: 8650004
Abstract: A method and apparatus for displaying a representation of a traffic roundabout having a central island surrounded by a circulatory lane is disclosed. The method involves receiving an operator selection of a design vehicle that is expected to use the roundabout, and receiving operator input of a design dimension for the roundabout, the design dimension defining a size of one of the central island and an outer perimeter of the circulatory lane. The method also involves generating a circulatory path of the design vehicle traveling within the design dimension along the circulatory lane, and generating vehicle extent locations associated with passage of the design vehicle along the circulatory path. The method also involves using the vehicle extent locations to compute a circulatory lane width, and generating display signals for causing the display to display an image representing the roundabout.

  • Publication number: 20130110472
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a geometric layout of a traffic intersection is disclosed. The method involves receiving intersection capacity data, where receiving includes receiving an identification of a number of intersection legs associated with the traffic intersection, receiving a lane designation designating a plurality of lanes for accommodating permitted vehicle movements between the intersection legs, each lane having at least one associated permitted vehicle movement, and receiving lane width dimensions for accommodating an expected vehicular traffic volume associated with permitted vehicle movements on each of the plurality of lanes. The method also involves generating a geometric layout of the traffic intersection by receiving orientation data defining respective orientations of each of the intersection legs.

  • Publication number: 20110071801
Abstract: A method and apparatus for displaying a representation of a traffic intersection on a display of a computer is disclosed. The method involves receiving operator input defining a relative orientation between a first roadway and a second roadway, the first and second roadways forming an intersection area therebetween. The method also involves receiving an operator selection of a design vehicle that is expected to use the traffic intersection, the design vehicle being defined by a plurality of design vehicle parameters. The method further involves generating at least one turning path of the design vehicle through the intersection between the first roadway and the second roadway, and generating first vehicle extent locations associated with passage of the design vehicle along the at least one turning path.
