  • Publication number: 20180217727
Abstract: Aspects of the subject technology relate to scaling an application window. A method includes determining a first window size for an application, and instructing the application to render at the first window size. The method also includes determining a second window size for the application, scaling the first window size to the second window size based on a scale value, and displaying the scaled application at the second window size. The scaling allows a full-screen view of the application to be displayed on a smaller window, or allows shrinking the application window to a size below a normal minimum window size. Inputs to the scaled window are also scaled so that the application continues to behave as if rendered at the first window size.

  • Patent number: 9418243
Abstract: Activating a private browsing mode for a browser can include receiving an electronic document within the browser and detecting an indicator associated with the electronic document using a processor, wherein the indicator is correlated with the private browsing mode of the browser. Responsive to detecting the indicator, the electronic document can be rendered within a view of the browser in which private browsing mode is activated.

  • Patent number: 9391861
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for comparing multiple client application variations, including, providing a copy of a client application to each of a plurality of client devices, wherein each copy of the client application comprises multiple application variations, receiving demographic information from one or more of the plurality of client devices and providing a list of available experiments to each of the plurality of client devices based on the demographic information, wherein each of the available experiments corresponds with one or more application variations. In certain implementations, the method further includes steps for receiving usage information for each copy of the client application associated with each of the plurality of client devices and comparing two or more application variations of the client application based on the usage information. Systems and computer-readable media are also provided.

  • Patent number: 9207794
Abstract: Various aspects of the subject technology relate to disambiguating user intent on a touch-sensitive input device. A system is configured to detect an initial number of touch events on a touchscreen device where each touch event corresponds to a finger of a user. The system determines whether the initial touch events on the touchscreen device are resting fingers based on at least one rest heuristic and attributes the initial number of touch events to resting fingers on the touchscreen device based on the determination. The rest heuristic may include, for example, whether the number of initial touch events on the touchscreen device exceeds a threshold number of touch events or whether the initial touch events are detected for a threshold duration.

  • Publication number: 20150268807
Abstract: A system and machine-implemented method of adjusting a size of an active region within a graphical user interface are provided. A stored association is accessed between a first input element of a graphical user interface and prior touch input corresponding to the first input element. Based on the accessed association, a size of an active region for at least one of the first input element or a second input element of the graphical user interface may be increased or decreased. The graphical user interface based on the increased or decreased size of the active region is displayed.

  • Patent number: 8818983
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for search engine synchronization is disclosed according to an aspect of the subject technology. The method comprises receiving, at a computing device, a search engine entry for a search engine, wherein the search engine entry comprises a keyword for invoking the search engine, and a globally unique identifier (GUID) uniquely identifying the search engine. The method also comprises determining whether there is a local search engine entry stored locally on the computing device with the same GUID as the received search engine entry, and, if there is a local search engine entry with the same GUID as the received search engine entry, then performing steps. The steps comprise determining whether the received search engine entry is newer than the local search engine entry, and, if the received search engine entry is newer, then replacing the local search engine entry with the received search engine entry.
