    Abstract: Techniques are disclosed that allow for the detection and locating of RF emitters. The technique includes recording emitter signals of interest received from the search area via an antenna array and a phase coherent receiver, wherein all frequency conversions carried out by the phase coherent receiver are performed in a phase coherent fashion across all the channels. The technique further includes identifying subspace of each channel using singular value decomposition (SVD), analyzing the subspace of each channel for the presence of a target signal, and direction finding and/or geolocating the target signal.

The processing unit defines a search grid within which to search for the source of the radio frequency emission. The processing unit motion compensates the tagged data separately for each point on the grid. The processing unit assigns a value to each grid point based on a phase coherence of the motion compensated data. The processing unit determines a location within the grid having a highest assigned value, thereby determining the source of the radio frequency emission.

    Abstract: Techniques for determining the angles of arrival of multiple simultaneous cochannel sources using only a single RF receiver sampling and downconversion channel is disclosed. This is accomplished by sequentially forming several known mixtures of multiple antenna signals in the RF domain prior to downconversion and digitization. Angle of arrival information is then recovered through the application of higher order statistics and subspace fitting techniques. The same principles can be applied to other P-element receiver arrays (e.g., acoustical receiver array).

    Abstract: A method and system for training an audio analyzer (114) to identify asynchronous segments of audio types using sample data sets, the sample data sets being representative of audio signals for which segmentation is desired. The system and method then label asynchronous segments of audio samples, collected at the target site, into a plurality of categories by cascading hidden Markov models (HMM). The cascaded HMMs consist of 2 stages, the output of the first stage HMM (208) being transformed and used as observation inputs to the second stage HMM (212). This cascaded HMM approach allows for modeling processes with complex temporal characteristics by using training data. It also contains a flexible framework that allows for segments of varying duration. The system and method are particularly useful in identifying and separating segments of the human voice for voice recognition systems from other audio such as music.
