    Abstract: A gripping device comprises a body having a longitudinal axis and including at least one elongate opening for receiving an elongate element, a gripping element, and means for bringing the gripping element into engagement with an elongate element located in the said opening, wherein the gripping element is mounted for translational movement in a slot having a longitudinal axis, and the longitudinal axis of the slot is set at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the opening, and wherein a force component exerted on an elongate element located in the said opening causes the gripping element to move in the slot and towards the elongate element, and wherein said opening is defined by walls and wherein one of the walls includes two intersecting surfaces lying at an angle to one another, the angle between the two surfaces being concave.

    Abstract: An advancer system is described for moving an elongate medical device within a body. The system includes a drive unit having a motor. The drive unit is configured to translate movement of the motor to the device so as to alternately advance and retract the device relative to the body. The advancer system also includes a user-operable control system configured to control the drive unit. The control system can interface with a magnetic navigation system. The above-described system allows an operating physician to control catheter advancement and retraction while remaining outside an x-ray imaging field. Thus the physician is freed from repeated x-ray exposure.

    Abstract: The micro-catheter has regions of different flexibility along its length, and has a magnetic element responsive to an applied magnetic field disposed in the distal end. The magnetic field may be applied with at least one stationary or at least one moveable magnet external to the subject body. The distal end of the micro-catheter is sufficiently flexible and the tip is sized such that the tip can bend or deflect at least 50 degrees when subjected to a magnetic field of as low as 0.1 Tesla and more preferably as low as 0.08 Tesla having a reference angle 90 degrees relative to the orientation of the distal end of the catheter.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method that provides for the calculation and prediction of hoop strength of an expanded pipe, preferably a PVC pipe or conduit. The method includes the steps of: (a) determining hoop strength as a function of relative wall thickness; (b) determining Wall Thickness Ratio (WTR) by dividing a nominal wall thickness of the original conduit by the minimum wall thickness of the expanded conduit; (c) determining long-term hydrostatic strength by at least one of hoop testing and burst testing; and (d) applying an accelerated regression analysis to the results in step (c), yielding a Hydrostatic Design Basis (HDB). The resulting HDB may be plotted against WTR to provide the user with graphical data for use in making design decisions and choosing specific conduit for specific applications.
