  • Patent number: 11902001
Abstract: A system and method for selecting antenna panels for communicating with satellites. The receive panels directed towards a location in the sky where the satellite is expected to be. When the signal from the satellite is received by the panels, parameters of the signals are checked against a threshold. All the panels having the parameters above the threshold are grouped together as a receive group. The parameters of the signals at the receive groups are compared to determine the best receive panel, and the transmit panel associate with the receive panel is selected as the transmit panel.

  • Patent number: 8763081
Abstract: Application layer authentication of a data-network based application makes use of a SIM function accessible to the application and telephone network authentication service accessible to a server to the application. For example, the application uses SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) for communication with the server and the authentication service is provided via a GSM based telephone network. In one implementation, a device (a “dongle”) includes an authentication module, application software, and an interface for communicating with a remote server over a data communication network. The application software includes instructions for using the authentication module to authorize an application layer interaction with the remote server.

  • Publication number: 20090170519
Abstract: A telephone system supports communication with user devices over both a cellular radio network as well as over an Internet Protocol (IP) network, and enables roaming and active call handoff between cellular and IP domains. Components of the system interact with conventional cellular telephone systems, for example, by emulating behavior of control components, providing proxy services for conventional components, transporting cellular telephone control communications over IP connections, or by simulating cellular operating characteristics of user devices operating in an IP domain.

  • Publication number: 20080132279
Abstract: An apparatus, such as a removable computer device (e.g., a USB device), includes application software stored on a computer-readable medium which may be loaded to computer coupled to the device. An interface on the device is used to couple the apparatus to a computer and to pass the application software to the computer. The application software can include a “soft phone” application. An authentication module on the device provides authentication information, for example from a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) through the interface, and the application software includes instructions for using the authentication information in a communication exchange over a data network using a cellular telephone protocol with a network element coupled to a cellular telephone network. In some examples, the protocol is a GSM protocol and the network element is Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) Network Controller (NC).

  • Publication number: 20070263608
Abstract: Voice communication between a mobile station and a packet-based voice communication system is handled. A communication interface for mobile station access to a telecommunication network over a public data network according to a first protocol is emulated at a gateway system. Communications pass between the gateway and the packet-based voice communication system according to a second protocol. Control communication information passing between the mobile station and the packet-based voice communication system is converted.
