Publication number: 20240094741Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method and apparatus for automated following behind a lead vehicle. The lead vehicle navigates a path from a starting point to a destination. The lead vehicle and the following vehicle are connected via V2V communication, allowing one or more following vehicles to detect the path taken by the lead vehicle. A computerized control system on the following vehicle (a Follow-the-Leader, or FTL, system) allows the following vehicle to mimic the behavior of the lead vehicle, with the FTL system controlling steering to guide the following vehicle along the path previously navigated by the lead vehicle. In some embodiments, the lead vehicle and following vehicle may both use Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) position coordinates. In some embodiments, the following vehicle may also have a system of sensors to maintain a gap between the following and lead vehicles.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 25, 2023Publication date: March 21, 2024Applicant: Peloton Technology, Inc.Inventors: Shad Laws, Joshua Switkes, Art Gavrysh, Marc Tange, Mark Herbert, Colleen Twitty, Dean Hogle, Andrew Tamoney, Eric Monsler, Carlos Rosario, Oliver Bayley, Richard Pallo, Louis Donayre, Laurenz Laubinger, Brian Smartt, Joyce Tam, Brian Silverman, Tabitha Jarvis, Murad Bharwani, Steven Erlein, Austin Schuh, Mark Luckevich

Patent number: 9493105Abstract: A rail member is supported longitudinally along both sides of the deck of a truck or trailer and includes a plurality of strap hook anchoring locations at spaced positions therein. Each anchoring location is defined by a pair of hook opening extending downwardly through an upper flange of the rail member. Cargo securing straps or chains are anchored onto the respective anchoring locations using an anchor member having an upper body portion defining a tie-down opening and a pair of lower hooks which can be hooked into the pair of hook openings of a selected anchoring location. The upper body portions spans between the two hook openings so as to prevent passage of the upper body portion through the hook openings while the cargo straps or chains remain slack.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2015Date of Patent: November 15, 2016Assignee: DOEPKER INDUSTRIES LTD.Inventor: Steven Herbert Hancock

Optical waveguide gratings having roughened cladding for reduced short wavelength cladding mode loss
Patent number: 6408118Abstract: In accordance with the invention, an optical waveguide comprising a longitudinally extending core housing an optical grating and a cladding layer peripherally surrounding the core, is provided with an outer surface of the cladding layer having one or more perturbations. Each perturbation has a height with respect to the core that varies by at least 0.1 times a Bragg wavelength of the grating over the surface of the perturbation and covers an extent of the outer surface whose linear dimensions are less than 1 cm. The perturbations suppress cladding mode spectra and reduce short wavelength cladding mode loss.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2000Date of Patent: June 18, 2002Assignee: Agere Systems Guardian Corp.Inventors: Ashish Ahuja, Benjamin John Eggleton, Jon W.
