  • Patent number: 6773200
Abstract: A recreational equipment rack system, which includes an equipment rack configured for exterior engagement on a vehicle. The equipment rack including a rack tongue configured to be inserted into and secured within a hitch receiver provided on the vehicle. A fastening mechanism configured to tightly secure the rack tongue to the hitch receiver. The fastening mechanism includes a bolt having a bolt head and a bolt post extending from the head for extending through transverse holes in the hitch receiver. The bolt post includes a threaded length and an unthreaded length. A nut assembly including a nut configured to engage the threaded length of the bolt enables selective clamping and releasing of the rack tongue with the hitch receiver. The bolt post has a removable post lock on its distal end to prevent removal of the rack from the vehicle without a security key or combination code.

  • Publication number: 20020074764
Abstract: A bicycle trailer has a bed portion supported by a frame assembly and a pair of wheels for transporting the bed portion over ground. The tongue member extends forward from the frame assembly. A hitch assembly is located on a distal end of the tongue member for coupling the trailer to a bike. The hitch assembly may include a ratchet device that permits tightening of a clamp to the bike preventing untightening of the clamp. Front and back hub members allow the trailer to be vertically collapsed to substantially reduce the side-to-side dimension of the trailer for storage or transport.

  • Patent number: 4887754
Abstract: A portable apparatus for retaining a bicycle in the manner of a conventional bicycle repair stand, and which can be used in conjunction with a conventional sports rack attached to the roof of a car or van. The apparatus can be attached to the conventional bicycle sports rack which is attached to the roof of a car and therefore utilizes the car and the sports rack as the supporting body framework to hold and support a bicycle in any desired orientation. The apparatus comprises an elongated member whose exterior cross-sectional dimensions are slightly smaller than the interior cross-sectional dimensions of the elongated base of a conventional sports rack attached to the roof of a vehicle, and is fitted into the interior section of the elongated base of the sports rack and retained therein by a press fit. Additional portions attached to the elongated section support a clamping mechanism which can retain a portion of a bicycle such as the horizontal tube of the frame.
