A return extends from an end of the lower portion opposite the upper portion, thereby defining a second groove between the return portion and the rear surface of the lower portion.

An outer frame has a central opening defined by the frame, and a fluid transparent layer is secured to the frame, occupying the opening. The system according to the invention is installed in an opening in a gutter protection system at the base of the roof valley in order to receive rain water which may otherwise overshoot the gutter protection system at the roof valley.

The strip is formed to be attached to the building eave, and includes an elongated attachment flange which is secured by a plurality of fasteners. Depending on heating requirements, two or more of the elongated heating elements, spaced from one another, can be employed, and a further heating element can be installed within any rain gutter extending along the building eave.

The heating arrangement includes an elongated protective cap extending along at least a portion of the gutter protector and an elongated heating element extending within the protective cap. The protective cap is formed to be attached to the gutter protector, either on top of the gutter protector or underneath the gutter protector, in either instance within a channel formed in the elongated protective cap. Depending on heating requirements, two or more of the elongated heating elements, spaced from one another, can be employed, and a further elongated heating element can be installed within the rain gutter.

The device comprises a main body adapted to be affixed to the roof, and a rain water deflector extending from the main body downwardly into the gutter, forming a trough and extending to an edge flange which can be affixed to an outwardly-extending gutter flange. The trough has a series of slots therein to allow water to pass from the trough into the rain gutter. The trough is oriented at least partly beneath the main body so that debris will pass thereover while water will sheet down the deflector into the trough and be captured within the gutter therebeneath.
