Abstract: An abbreviated user interface for instant messaging (or other type of communications occurring in a graphical user interface environment permitting concurrent running of multiple application) is provided. The abbreviated user interface is different from a related primary user interface and is presented when the primary user interface is instantiated, yet is not on top of a z-order of a graphical environment. The abbreviated user interface can be a light-weight one that permits a user to quickly read messages. In one embodiment, a user can create outgoing messages using the abbreviated user interface. Presentation of the abbreviated user interface can require a user action, such as hovering a pointer over a task bar element for a duration or pressing a hot-key combination. In one embodiment, presentation of an otherwise unread message within the abbreviated interface for a designated time can cause the message to be marked as read.

Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and program for rendering a display of at least one data set name, wherein each data set is associated with one or more file components. A selection of one displayed data set name is received and names of the file components associated with the selected data set are displayed. Selection is received of at least one of the displayed file component names and the selected data set name and selected at least one selected file component name are rendered in a history panel, wherein the selected data set name and selected at least one file component are displayed in a hierarchical tree arrangement.

A graphical representation of the job output is displayed in a graphical user interface. The graphical user interface contains a set of controls used to select a portion of the job output. Abstract: A type-ahead navigation feature typically allows users to navigate to a first resource whose name begins with an inputted character or a sequence of input characters typed in quick succession. The type-ahead navigation feature may not be useful when the resource name comprises multiple parts or where a first set of characters in the resource name is irrelevant in locating a requisite resource name. Functionality can be implemented to initiate the type-ahead navigation feature against any character position in the resource name. By providing the users with an ability to specify a part of the resource name or a character position within the resource name against which the type-ahead navigation feature should be initiated, resource navigation efficiency can be improved.
