  • Patent number: 10446021
Abstract: Warning systems (S) and methods (M1, M2) for alerting traffic and pedestrians within a projectable area in relation to a location and path of a vehicle (100), e.g., an articulated vehicle during forward or rearward motions and turning maneuvers. Beam(s) (98) of coherent light, e.g., high-irradiance laser light, are emitted from point(s) relative to the vehicle (100), preferably from a high angle for reducing eye exposure. Laser beam(s) map a grid on the roadway and adjacent areas of the imminent path of the turning vehicle (100), by way of a set of instructions executable by a processor. The instructions involve computing, programming, and/or updating vehicle parameters, in relation to a warning device (99), e.g., a retrofittable and/or programmable device, in response to changes in vehicle-configuration or warning system (S) location, the warning system (S) being manually or automatically triggerable in response to sensors disposed in relation to the vehicle (100).

  • Patent number: 9633143
Abstract: A method, apparatus, media and signals for generating a computer representation of a three-dimensional swept envelope of a vehicle having a wheeled chassis operable to support a vehicle body for movement along a terrain is disclosed. The method involves receiving terrain data representing a 3D terrain, receiving data defining parameters of the vehicle, and receiving data defining a path for movement of the vehicle from an initial position on the terrain to a displaced position on the terrain. The method also involves disposing a computer representation of the vehicle on the 3D representation of the terrain at successive locations along the path using the parameters. Disposing involves determining points of engagement between wheels of the wheeled chassis and the 3D representation of the terrain to dispose the chassis with respect to the terrain, and determining a corresponding 3D location of the vehicle body with respect to the terrain.

  • Patent number: 9404758
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a representation of a vehicle path for display via a computer is disclosed, which involves receiving start location information including a start location and an initial orientation of the vehicle and end location information including a desired end location of the vehicle, and receiving a selection of a vehicle defined by parameters that define a turning behavior of the vehicle. The method involves receiving constraint information identifying at least one constraint to passage of the vehicle between the start and end locations and causing a processor circuit to generate a vehicle path for travel between the start and end locations, the vehicle path based on the turning behavior of the vehicle and being generated such that the vehicle path remains within the at least one constraint.
