  • Patent number: 10736815
Abstract: A system and method for altering the scent within the headspace of a product's packaging, such as a pill container. In the container, the pills or other consumable product partially fill the container. A scent release insert is placed into the container along with the consumable contents of the container. The scent release insert is elastomeric and is readily deformed by the consumable product within the container. As such, the scent release insert can be deformed into many of the voids within the container, therein making efficient use of space within the container. The scent release insert emits scent into the container and alters the scent of the head space within the container.

  • Publication number: 20150366250
Abstract: A system and method of inducing sensory deception in a person eating, drinking or smoking a consumable product. When many products are eaten, drunk or smoked, those objects are taken into the mouth with a plastic object. The plastic object has a first segment and a second segment, wherein the first segment enters the mouth and the second segment remains under the nose just outside the mouth. Sensory deception is created by forming at least part of the first segment from plastic that has been combined with a gustatory perception modifier. Furthermore, the second segment is at least partially comprised of a plastic that has been combined with a selected scent. The modified plastic stimulates the sense of taste when entering the mouth. The second segment contains the scented plastic. This segment stimulates the olfactory sense. Together, the two segments create modified olfactory and gustatory inputs.

  • Patent number: 7306109
Abstract: A system and method for providing a dry consumable with a liquid in the same assembly. The assembly includes a fluid container that is covered with a cap assembly. The cap assembly can be manually opened and closed, thereby selectively controlling the flow of fluid out of the fluid container. Consumable material is formed into a solid form on the exterior of the cap assembly. The material can include pharmaceutical compounds, nutraceutical compounds or can be inert compounds, such as confections. The material is formed into a solid that can be bitten or licked away from the cap assembly as the cap assembly is placed in the mouth. Once the material is received into the mouth, liquid can be drunk through the cap assembly to help wash the material down the throat.

  • Publication number: 20040028779
Abstract: A system and method of adding olfactory detected properties to an ingestible product. An ingestible product is placed within packaging made from a plastic that is supersaturated with a fragrance material. The fragrance material blooms from the surfaces of the packaging and scents both the interior and exterior surfaces of the packaging. Scent on the interior adds olfactory detectable properties to the ingestible product that are not native to that product. The scent on the exterior of the packaging helps olfactory sense deception to occur when the ingestible product is consumed from the packaging. As such, a person consuming the ingestible product will perceive flavors never directly added to the ingestible product.

  • Publication number: 20030000177
Abstract: A method of adding olfactory detected properties to a consumable product is claimed. The method involves placing consumable material into a sealed container while exposed to a mass of scented plastic. The scented plastic contains known olfactory detected properties. The olfactory detected properties of the scented plastic are absorbed by the consumable material over time. The olfactory detected properties can be specifically designed to compensate for olfactory detected losses in the consumable material created by processing, storage or aging. The olfactory detected properties can also be specifically designed to add complimentary olfactory detected properties that otherwise are not present in a consumable product.

  • Publication number: 20020139093
Abstract: A system and method is claimed for dispensing scent into a consumable material. The system involves bottling a volume of consumable material and sealing the bottle with a cap assembly. The cap assembly can have many different configurations. However, regardless of its configuration, the cap assembly includes at least one section of scented plastic that is left exposed to the contents of the bottle after the bottle is sealed with the cap assembly. The scented plastic contains a scented compound. As the scented plastic is left exposed to the contents of the bottle, scent from the scented compound leaches out of the plastic in into the consumable material. As such, the liquid passively acquires the scent of the scented plastic.

  • Patent number: 6045833
Abstract: A device and method for adding the perception of flavoring to a product that is consumed from a receptacle. The device is a cover for a receptacle, wherein a person can drink from a receptacle through the structure of the cover. The receptacle cover is scented with a desired fragrance. Furthermore, the receptacle cover is shaped so that a portion of the cover enters the mouth when a person is drinking through the receptacle cover. A person who consumes a product directly from the receptacle will bring the receptacle cover to his/her mouth. As the receptacle cover is taken within the mouth, the receptacle cover scents the air contained within the mouth. Simultaneously, the portion of the receptacle cover outside of the mouth scents the air surrounding the outside of the nose. By scenting the air inside the mouth and outside the nose, the nose is saturated by the desired fragrance and a more effective olfactory sense deception is obtained.
