  • Patent number: 6389735
Abstract: A device and a method are provided for reproducing complex electrical fields associated with aquatic species as they exist in nature, for the purpose of altering the behavior of like or unlike aquatic species. An aquatic species is selected for observation and isolated from other species to avoid interference. At least one of an attribute and a observable behavior of the isolated species is recorded as well as an electrical field signature associated with the isolated species. In another aspect, a method is provided for identifying a particular aquatic species in an unisolated environment according to a particular electrical field signature generated by various aquatic species.

  • Patent number: 5883858
Abstract: Signals generated electronically at a variety of frequencies are broadcast under water in the presence of various species of aquatic animals and any reaction of the aquatic animals in response to the broadcast signals is noted. A frequency synthesizer is used with an underwater transducer to generate and broadcast signals at a variety of frequencies and frequency synthesizer control words associated with observed behavior are recorded. Subsequently, the recorded control words are applied to a frequency synthesizer connected to an underwater transducer to influence behavior of identified species of underwater animals in a desired manner. Indices representative of various recorded signals may be embodied in a submersible device, such as a lure or the like, from which a reproduced signal may be broadcast to attract, repel, or otherwise influence the behavior of identified species of aquatic animals.

  • Patent number: 5177891
Abstract: Underwater acoustical signals or "signatures" produced by various species of fish bait or representing water surface disturbances are recorded by means of underwater recording devices and stored in the form of digital signals in memory devices. A memory device containing data representing the signature of a particular species of fish bait may be installed in a lure or other underwater housing together with an output transducer and the acoustical signal corresponding to the signature of fish bait is broadcast underwater to attract game fish. An integrated circuit chip containing circuitry for reading the memory chip is included in the lure together with a battery which provides power for the integrated circuit chips. The memory and the circuitry which reads the memory and drives the output transducer are provided in separate integrated circuit chips and mounted on one or more printed circuit boards inside the lure or housing. The memory is in the form of a pluggable read-only memory.
