Abstract: A scheme for redirecting data items from a messaging host system to a user's mobile device using a redirector component disposed in a wide-area data network. In one embodiment, a method comprises one or more of the following: automatically detecting receipt of a new data item from the messaging host system for a user over the wide-area data network; based on filtering rules configured for the user, determining if the new data item is to be redirected to the user's mobile device over a wireless network; and upon determining that the new data item is to be redirected, processing at least a portion of the new data item for transmission thereof to the user's mobile device.

Abstract: A scheme for redirecting messages between an Internet Service Provider (ISP) host and a mobile device associated with a user having a mail address at the ISP host. An embodiment comprises one or more of the following: receiving incoming messages directed to the user's mail address at the ISP host; responsive to a setting of a redirection trigger associated with the user, encrypting and redirecting the incoming messages from the ISP host to the mobile device via a redirector that is integrated with the ISP host; receiving encrypted outgoing messages that are generated and encrypted at the mobile communications device; decrypting the received encrypted outgoing messages to recover the outgoing messages; and configuring address information of the outgoing messages so that the user's mail address is used as an originating address of the outgoing messages.

Abstract: A key distribution scheme for management of keys used for encryption of data items redirected between a messaging server and a mobile device associated with a user. An embodiment comprises one or more of the following: generating a first pair of keys by a redirector component associated with the messaging server, the first pair of keys including a public key and a private key; storing the private key of the first pair of keys at the redirector component and providing the public key of the first pair of keys to a key repository; generating a second pair of keys by the mobile device, the second pair of keys including a public key and a private key; storing the private key of the second pair of keys at the mobile device and providing the public key of the second pair of keys to the key repository; and exchanging the public keys of the first and second pairs of keys between the redirector component and the mobile device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a mobile data communication device operable with a redirector component disposed in a wide-area data network. The claimed embodiment comprises a structure for manipulating a set of filtering rules configured for a user associated with the mobile data communication device, the filtering rules operating in conjunction with a redirector component disposed in a wide-area data network; and a structure for determining that a data item received at the mobile data communication device responsive to the filtering rules is a data item redirected from the redirector component based on examining a redirection flag associated with the data item.

In one embodiment, a method comprises one or more of the following: receiving a notification that a message is available for redirection, the message comprising an e-mail originated from a user's mobile data communication device; obtaining a user ID related to the message and retrieving a user record based on the user ID; obtaining a site ID related to a messaging host system associated with the user and retrieving a site information record based on the site ID; if a user tag line information in the user record is blank, examining a site tag line in the site information record for the user; and appending the site tag line found in the site information record to the message before transmission to a recipient.

Abstract: A system and method for pushing information from a host system to a mobile data communication device upon sensing a triggering event is disclosed. A redirector program operating at the host system enables a user to continuously redirect certain user-selected data items from the host system to the user's mobile data communication device upon detecting that one or more user-defined triggering events has occurred. The redirector program operates in connection with event-generating applications and repackaging systems at the host system to configure and detect a particular user-defined event, and then to encrypt and repackage the user-selected data items in an electronic wrapper prior to pushing the data items to the mobile device.
