  • Publication number: 20230264813
Abstract: A telescoping tail assembly for use on an aircraft that has a fore-aft length. The telescoping tail assembly includes a housing extending in an aftward direction and a tailboom slidable along the housing into various positions including an extended position and a retracted position. A jackscrew is coupled to the tailboom. An actuator is coupled to the jackscrew and is configured to selectively rotate the jackscrew to translate the tailboom between the plurality of positions. The tailboom has one or more control surfaces coupled thereto. The tailboom increases the fore-aft length of the aircraft in the extended position and decreases the fore-aft length of the aircraft in the retracted position.

  • Publication number: 20230091705
Abstract: An aircraft operable to transition between thrust-borne lift in a VTOL orientation and wing-borne lift in a biplane orientation. The aircraft includes an airframe having first and second wings zin a staggerwing configuration with first and second swept pylons extending therebetween. A distributed thrust array is attached to the airframe. The thrust array includes a first plurality of propulsion assemblies coupled to the first wing and a second plurality of propulsion assemblies coupled to the second wing. A flight control system is coupled to the airframe and is configured to independently control each of the propulsion assemblies. The first plurality of propulsion assemblies is longitudinally offset relative to the second plurality of propulsion assemblies such that rotors of the first plurality of propulsion assemblies rotate in a different plane than rotors of the second plurality of propulsion assemblies.
