  • Publication number: 20070146478
Abstract: This invention uses image processing to process imagery from two cameras to display onto a single monitor in a multiple of modes. These image-processing functions are detailed here, as well as other processes to combine multiple functions in a single self-contained unit called the 3DRCV (3D Rig Calibrator and Viewer). The 3DRCV unit has been designed as a visual aid for the calibration 3D Camera platforms and rigs, and as a tool to verify acceptable settings during a 3D shoot.

  • Publication number: 20070139612
Abstract: This process and invention may be used for “live” (on-line, recorded, real-time, or transmitted) stereoscopic image generation, post-production, and viewing to ensure the imagery, from the cameras through the systems to the final screens, maintains an acceptable level of viewer comfort and actively causes an action if an image becomes “uncomfortable” to view. The invention will use image-processing hardware and software to monitor stereoscopic 3D image data, and will generate an output response based on qualifying the imagery. The output responses include generating an alarm to alert technical crew members to a “discomfort” condition so they may take corrective action. The alarm may be an audio or visual alert, and warn of the type of discomfort detected. The alarm condition may trigger the automatic control of a video switching device, which would immediately route an appropriate “comfortable” input source to the output.

  • Publication number: 20070140673
Abstract: This invention is for target remapping, telecentricity compensation, and a new PID motion control algorithm to align and control to a very high tolerance multiple functions to two lenses simultaneously in a stereoscopic 3D camera system. To control two lenses in a 3D camera rig such that they match as closely as possible in “actual” positions, a new error variable is calculated, based on the difference between the “actual” positions of both lenses. This is added to the PID formula, as a new statement, with a new coefficient, which we call the PID3D algorithm.

  • Publication number: 20070140682
Abstract: Ongoing research and development on Stereoscopic 3D Camera rigs has led to certain new and unique improvements, including a trapezoidal beam-splitter mirror, a beam-splitter mirror that is facing downwards, a stereoscopic platform that can be inverted 180°, an optical wedge for vertical field-of-view refraction compensation, a single inter-ocular motor with dual rack-and-pinion gear system, dual convergence motors on worm gears, a convergence rotation under first-nodal point, and an electronics control mounted under the mirror.
