  • Publication number: 20070197945
Abstract: A hip and pelvic splint system is designed to immobilize both the pelvic region and lower extremities of a patient suffering from a hip or pelvic fracture. This allows ready transport of the patient with little or no pain or additional injury caused by shifting of the hip or pelvis. The device consists of a foam leg insert that is first placed between the legs of a patient to help stabilize the patient's lower extremities. A flexible splint component is then slid beneath the patient's lets and hips. The splint component is then closed over the patient and tightened with straps. The lower edge of splint component is secured snuggly about the legs in the vicinity of the patient's knees so that the foam leg insert can immobilize the legs. The upper edge of the splint is secured snuggly about the upper abdomen, thereby immobilizing the pelvis. Hand holds on the device allow paramedics to lift the patient without distorting the fracture.

  • Patent number: 6170486
Abstract: An improved head immobilizer comprises a head support position for placement beneath an injured patient's head, two head support blocks and a forehead strap. The head support cushion is located beneath the head of a patient on a backboard. After the head support cushion is optimally positioned in reference to the patient, an adhesive system is activated to affix the cushion to the backboard. The head support blocks are placed on either side of the patient's head to immobilize it and are held in position by a hook in loop fastening system. Finally, a forehead strap is stretched from on block to the other across the patient's forehead to more completely immobilize the patient. The strap also uses a hook in loop fastener to attach to the head support blocks.

  • Patent number: 5829430
Abstract: An endotracheal tube holder secures an endotracheal tube in a selected position within the patient's mouth and trachea and includes a tube holding block having an elongated cradle that extends inwardly of a patient's mouth. The holding block is formed having a tube clasp housing in which is located a plurality of tube securing pins, whereby the endotracheal tube is held in place by the securing pins and a pair of oppositely disposed flexible flange members which engage and hold the tube in a substantially fixed position with respect to the patient's mouth, and wherein a flexible biting block is interposed between the tube cradle and the tube clasp housing.

  • Patent number: 5788658
Abstract: An extrication collar for immobilizing the head and neck of an injured victim is field adjustable by an emergency medical technician who matches the size of the victim by tearing lower and/or upper peripheral portions of the extrication collar off along a perforated line. The vertical height of the collar and hence the length of neck to which the collar is adjusted is varied by the amount of the collar periphery, which is removed by manually tearing along a perforated line. The plurality of perforated lines are defined through the collar to provide a plurality of discrete sizes. Rigidity of the collar is provided by an exterior and noncompressible foam layer, while cushioning of the collar is provided by an interior compressible foam bonded to the noncompressible foam. The noncompressible foam or the compressible foam or both are selectively separable through the perforated lines in the front portion of the collar, the back portion of the collar or both.

  • Patent number: 5513633
Abstract: An endotracheal tube holder that includes a face plate assembly which is attached to a patient's head by an adjustable headband. The face plate assembly is formed with a face plate adapted to be positioned over the mouth of the patient and is formed with an open end channel terminating with a V-shaped notch over which is superposed a tube holding block that is affixed to the outer surface of the face plate, and also includes a matching V-shaped notch in which an endotracheal tube can be fixedly positioned by a thumb screw, a bite block being integrally secured to the inner surface of the face plate which is also provided with an aligned V-shaped notch. The face plate also includes an opening for ready access to the patient's mouth, as might be required.

  • Patent number: 4867275
Abstract: An escape ladder for side rails with multilevel dwellings comprising a pair of side rails inverted "J" hooks which are pivotal outward to engage a window sill and inward to fold. The side rails extend downward sufficiently to support two or three more steps. Extendable below the rigid portion of the ladder are a second set of steps supported by a flexible support means such as rope with intermediate spacers between steps. Upon applying pressure to the upper one of the second set of steps, the lower portion of the ladder is rigidified. The ladder, after use, may be folded and stored in a bag with the hooks used as handles.
