Patent number: 8206825Abstract: A coated or jacketed wire or cable, and components thereof are disclosed. The coating, jacket, and components, which comprise a polyolefin and a phenolic polymeric antioxidant, exhibit outstanding oxidative thermal stability (as indicated by the increase in the oxidative inductive time (OIT)), when compared to polyolefins containing traditional non-polymeric antioxidants. A greater improvement in the thermal oxidative stability is observed after the polyolefin mixtures have been aged in water-blocking filler(s).Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2008Date of Patent: June 26, 2012Assignee: Equistar Chemicals, LPInventors: Marvin R. Appel, Mick C. Hundley, Jeffrey S. Borke, Steven W. Horwatt

Patent number: 6392153Abstract: An electrical conductive assembly including an electrical conductor and an annular laminate insulator surrounding the electrical conductor. The annular laminate insulator includes an inner ply of a first polymeric composition and an outer ply of a second polymeric composition wherein the outer ply second polymeric composition has a hardness in excess of the inner ply first polymeric composition and wherein the abrasion resistance of the laminate is in excess of the combined individual abrasion resistance of the inner ply and outer plies. The annular laminate is flame retardant and stabilized against thermal oxidation by the inclusion of a flame retardant and a thermal antioxidant. The polymers of the first and second polymeric compositions are thermosetting resins, crystalline thermoplastics having a melting point of at least about 130° C. or amorphous thermoplastics having a glass transition temperature of at least about 130° C.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1998Date of Patent: May 21, 2002Assignee: Equistar Chemicals, LPInventors: Steven W. Patent number: 5412012Abstract: The present invention relates to flame retardant insulation and jacketing compositions useful for wire and cable products which exhibit improved adhesion to the metal conductor. This is achieved by the use of a specific stabilizer package comprised of three specific antioxidants and by varying their relative proportions. The compositions are based on ethylene-vinyl esters and ethylene-alkyl acrylate copolymers and are formulated with a hydrated inorganic filler, an alkoxy silane, a crosslinking agent and the three-component stabilizer package. Antioxidants utilized for the three-component stabilizer package include tetrakis[methylene(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamate)]methane, pentaerythritol tetrakis(betalaurylthiopropionate) and thiodiethylene bis(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyhydrocinnamate).Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1994Date of Patent: May 2, 1995Assignee: Quantum Chemical CorporationInventors: Steven W.
